Combat Medic Archive
Thread: so what do you guys do anyway?
Right now I am a medic/commando but dont have enough points to do much in commando so I am thinking of switching to combat medic with some pistoleer.
My question is just what do you guys do? how well do you do it, and how do you stack up to other combat professions in terms of usefulness and to a lesser extent PvP?
I ama master in combat medic and carbineer (poor me). The mixture of these classes allow us to be great crowd control with all AoE attacks. I currently am able to toss a AoE poison/disease at 90m that does a incredible amount of damage per tick. So basically, when the enemy sees that they are posioned/diseased and have no idea where it came from, the time it takes them to walk to me they are already pretty messed up. This is where the carbineer in me comes into play. Once they get to that 64m mark and are able to shoot at me, they get hit with a Wild Shot 2 that does 375 dmg in PvP. So if they live, then they are lucky, until the next tick hits and then they are dropped like a rock.
But since every one is wanting to do the whole "get you holocron now" thing, PvP has basically vanished.
Isnt the carbineer tree all muffed up though? I hear nothing but complaints from carbineers and while that is all you hear from EVERY SINGLE profession in the game the carbineer's cries seem very justified.
I'd hate to pick up a skill that is very crappy that the dev's show no signs of interest in making it respectable.
I see a ton of CM/pistoleer out there so I have to ask what exactly makes the carbine a better weapon choice then the pistol? Someone said something about crowd control but what exactly does that mean?
Yes, the Carbineer profession is mostly broken, hence why I said "poor me". Most skills do not work, HAM costs are great and the best weapon is broken. There are a few specials that do work, and one of them is Wild Shot 2.
When i refer to crowd control, I mean taking on multiple targets at the same time using Area of Effect attacks. Wild Shot 2 is one of those AoE attacks, it causes damage to all bars almost at the same rate. This helps out when you are a Imperial in Anchorhead. The odds against me at atleast 20 to 1. When I walk into that town and hold my own, you know I can use my character to the best of my ablilties.
I use 80% resist armor, buffed to the max, and I am a spice junky. When I leave that town, there are always a few things left behind. Those are a bunch of dead Rebels and puke every where.
CM/Doc here. Nowhere near the combat skills of those who choose a combat class as second profession, but I never go anywhere without full buffs and stim-E's to heal myself with. Coupled with 80m poison I can handle most anyone 1v1, do decently vs multiple (but that really exposes me to much more risk, i'm just as likely to be taken down as I am to defeat my multiple opponents). Without the combat skills to stand toe-to-toe I do a lot of kiting and pick my battles in areas where I can toss poison then move to break LOS with my opponent/s and let the poison do it's job.
PvE is an odd thing as a CM. If you are a covert faction member you can basically go up to any faction NPC and poison to your hearts content without being attacked. You'll have to do some actual weapon damage if you want loot or FP (which you'll have to do with new change anyway) and it can take quite a bit of time to wear down a mob or group of mobs with poison. I can handle any faction NPC because of this, but it may take me 10+ minutes to do it. With non-faction mobs you basically throw poison from as far as you can and then run. Pretty much the only PvE I do anymore is faction related.
I am also a CM/Carbineer. I do alot of PvE and i think the group shots are great for that, ie: if you send a pet in you usually get many creature to attack it simotaniously. This is where my carbineer area attacks come into play. Granted i only have 1 area attack from the Carbineer tree right now, but it is still effective and i am looking forward to the group knockdown and group stun. Some of which are broken right now, i think, so i just hope the devs fix them up soon! Hope this is of some help ![]()
-Lihpson; -I bet i can kill me before you can kill me-
I hate to bring it up, but RIFLES are a third alternative.
This shows potencial, mainly because of mind damage, range, and that nifty ranged death blow towards the top. I was trying this for a while, but stopped because i realized I don't like using a rifle. I don't want to be far away, I don't like having to be prone to be worth a **edit**. Also, upon inspection of the tree, you can see there is no bonus to hit while moving, somthing combat med's do alot. Finnaly (and importanty) rifles take a chunk out of YOUR mind, too.
So, what I have done is discredit somthing I brought up, and indeed, I have switched to carbine. There are CM/Riflemen, and they don't seem to suck.
Usefulness will depend on which server you are. I'm on Scylla and I have a hard time getting any great ressources, so my poisons/diseases aren't the best out there. I've mastered CM and Pistoleer and I can say that I rarely use any CM skills. If you plan to do alot of PvE, go Doctor instead. You'll appreciate the 3k ham bar alot more then the 3k heal. I rarely PvP but I've done some recently using Pistoleer or CM, never both at the same time. I've enjoyed seeing ppl drop incapped from my poisons while I'm standing behind a wall of players so they can't target me. Doing both professions at the same time is hard to do, because if you're going against LLC's or Flamethrowers, that second you'll waste on a Fighting attack will mean the difference between a DB or a heal thrown to your incapped friend. If those weapons didn't exist (or any weapon which does 1k in pvp) then doing both professions would be alot easier, just throw an AoE heal, then do a couple of fighting attacks, rince, repeat...
My 2 cents
