Thread: Combat Medic Area Poison/Disease Bug.

I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I didin't see anything about it in the last 3 pages (I just skimmed through).


I play a CM myself. So this is nota whine, but it is something that definetly needs to be fixed.


Currently the way area poisons/disease's work is, only the initial target needs to be in view. If that person is in view and you throw an area on them, everyone within the radius will be affected by this poison/disease, ignoring any walls or anythingthat may be in the way.


In my eyes, this is a major bug, and I'm certain it definetly can be fixed.


If you can't enter the building, and you throw an area on someone outside of it. The poison will not hit the people inside, However.. If you can enter, and you are outside, and the person you throw it on is also outside, the people inside will be affected.


SOE, please fix this bug ASAP. Most CM's poison thru walls on accident and get accused of cheating.

Now that you mention it, this hasn't been mentioned for a while...

The last I heard is that this is known to the devs, and has been written off as being "as designed". The justification being that the poisons and diseases are airborne, and that buildings are not air tight, so the gas gets through to you if you are in range.

I think that the "real" reason behind this is that it is too processor intensive to calculate line of sight for everybody within the range of of the initial target. However, (for obvious reasons) I don't think the devs have confirmed or denied this, so this is mostly speculation from the forums.

Regardless, the last official line was "we know about this, and are not planning on changing it". This statement was made several months ago though, so it may no longer be valid.


P.S. Before somebody rants that this is unfair, unrealistic and starts trolling or flaming, a large percentage (in fact the vast majority I think) of the combat medic community agrees that line of sight as it stands now has a considerable number of issues, and should be addressed.

I know that it has been brought to the Dev's attention several times, but don't recall getting any response, let alone one that said this is working as intended.


Anywho, been long enough that we might ask Texxie..........

Fair enough. I heard from several "community elders" a few months ago, during the torrent of nerf cries, what I referenced above. However, I will admit that I have never directly seen somebody with a blue or a red name post what I said. I only heard if referenced by other people who said they saw a correspondent or dev post it. IfPahdbacca questions the veracity of what I posted, I think he or she is a little more credible than me...


So Pahdbacca, to the best of your knowledge the current official line is"..."?

I am no more or less 'in the know' than you, besides the fact that I do know it was brought up to the devs (because I was asking when I was a Corr...I never got an answer then). Entirely possible that something was said about it that I missed. As far as I know chances are a dead 50/50 that either of us are right/wrong.



I think we need to poke texxie in the ribs a couple of times and get official word from one of those blue types. (hint, hint)
