I am nearly at MCM by this method of gaining XP (as covert imp faction). I was killed by a reb when I was TEF'd for healing an overt imp. As I understand it, I cannot tell when another imp is overt or not. Fine. Is there a way to tell when I am TEF'd? I kept hitting Ctrl-C to check Faction Standing, but could not tell that my covertness has changed.

If the person has an imp symbol besides his/her name even when you haven't got him/her targeted it's an overt.

I had this happen to me when I was making my way to master. I was happily grinding away in AH cantina when it kicked off outside. Next thing, a bunch of overt Imps decided to gatecrash the cantina, and BOOM! DB, all thanks to an overt Reb who was down stairs declaring. I wouldn't mind but I wasn't active in the combat. This is when TEF suck's. It has its time and place and this is not one of then.

If you're a master CM now, you've probably paid back the Imperials in spades with your mind poison and disease.

I have heard that area stims in cantinas are very good at grinding the med exp.. but i got from master medic to CM 4404 in about 5 hours with a friend of mine tumbling in my house for me. then i got the crafting part done.. in.. if i did the math correctly .. 2.84 hours or so. so i dont know, is the area stim thing faster?

No, tumbling is quicker. I'm not a grinder. I actually got most of my XP from joining groups, which was slower, but more fun. If you can find a friend to tumble then thats fine, but not my thing. I like to play the game whilst getting my xp. I was desperate when I was in the cantina. So I had to eat a bit of humble pie and put my nose to the grind stone. Only bit I really had to grind, was the crafting, which made my eyes bleed.

This one thing makes me really mad. I have gone to both theed and coronet alike and when I'm there, I'll stop by the cantina just to do an area heal for the sake of helping the entertainers. I'll usually look around to see if there are overts, but sometimes they will just walk in behind me. I could heal 15 rebs with an area heal, but one overt imp, and I get killed for it. How in the world am I supposed to help the people if I get killed every time for it?

Honestly, I'm surprised that this many people have had problems with being TEF'd in a cantina. Personally have found that having my "Master Combat Medic" title up is a pretty good deterrent to being TEF attacked.(I'vestood next to2 overts while TEF'd while waiting a tense two minutes for a starship to arrive, and not been attacked. I was furiously tabbing with a finger over my poison and disease hotkeys the whole time... )

Granted if they get the drop on you (which they will because you are TEF'd), they have an extremely good chance of killing you before you can do anything. However, the low possibility of your standing up and getting a disease and/or poisonoff seems to be a strong incentive for most PvP'ers to not bother you. (Well, the non-doctors and non-TKMs, which there seem to be a lot of judging from the nerf cries we see all the time.)

But maybe I've just been lucky.
