Thread: With these changes, isn't it about time we got some defenses?

I think we shouldn't have any. Part of the balance of our profession is that we're easily taken out if someone concentrates fire on us. We are not supposed to be "uber" fighters...we lob a few poisons/diseases to help out our comrades, and stimpacks to keep them alive. And we should hang out at the back...where w ehopefully won't get killed.

Giving us defenses would go overboard, IMHO.

Kind of hard to hang out in the back if our heal range is shorter than our poison range though.

I would tweak that and replace CM's with ranged, and vice versa. Especially with the new changes in range, combat medics have a lesser range than ranged attackers.

Idealy, they would be out of range of enemy ranged combatants, but within range of friendly and enemy combatants. (Which also might explain why stims have a lesser range.) Very tricky balancing act, in an ideal environment.

Edit: Fixed spelling error.

Yeah it's a bit much. You're not a combat class. You're a combat support class who needs to rely on the meatbags for your defense. Yeah it's a bit much. You're not a combat class. You're a combat support class who needs to rely on the meatbags for your defense.

support, huh?

Well, I tested out the new system today on my favorite Imps, the green-armored dudes that battle the Gungans on Naboo, about 1Km N of Moenia.

I buffed myself without Bivoli, so only got about 2200 per stat, and drank two Vasarian Brandies rather than go find a dancer. Then I took my little R3 "battle" droid with 6 Combat Modules, which only give him about 120-130 hitting, but his 4400 HAM kept him alive for a couple rounds. I sent him in to draw fire, then I calmly ran through and threw not one, two or 3, but 4 Area Health Poisons on the small groups (there were 4 groups of about 3 each that were close enough together for an Area Health Poison to get them all).

All of a sudden I noticed I wasn't taking much damage! So I ran back through the crowds again, tossing more Area Health Poisons (my favorite, since most of my guildies now use Pistols). I fired all the time with my "old" Republic Blaster, the one that anyone can use, and does only 65-135 damage. But as time ticked away, the poisons ticked down, and I was able to kill all 12 of them without so much as healing myself once. I did stop to heal my droid with a Droid Repair Kit C a couple times, but at the end of it, we were both standing there in pretty good shape.

"Fie, Fie," you say, without knowing that each of these little dudes has about 4500 HAM and fires AP1 Energy shots (oh yeah, I wasn't wearing ANY armor, just my +14 Healing/Wound pants and +14 Healing/Wound trenchcoat, a plain old shirt, boots and my funky red chef's hat).

My poisons aren't even up to the average as I gather the materials and make them myself, unlike my buffpacks which I buy from Pleeter (fantastic medicine maker!) and have all been above 900 rated buffpacks lately.

You may have noticed I didn't even bother diseasing any of them, and only used the Health Poisons because I was using a Pistol.

Anyway, "Support Class"my Butt! If I'd had a "real" person there instead of the Droid, who could fire on each target as one died instead of having to be retold to "attack" a new one all the time, the battle would have been overa lot quicker.

Tomorrow I think I'll try it without the Droid. What the heck! The worst that can happen is that I'll die and not get the 13 fps for each one, unless I remember to clone in Moenia first and can make it back out while they're still standing around, probably at One Health point each by then. :->

It's been brought up before; we combat medics have no defenses whatsoever.

We used to be able to more than compensate for this when we had a range above 64m, allowing us to keep enough distance from the thick of the action to avoid getting killed (well getting killed too often anyway ).

Now that our range has been reduced (it's even lower than the other ranged professions), staying alive is a difficult task for the combat medic. Would it be possible for us to get some form of defenses?

I'm thinking sticking in some ranged mitigation on the "Healing speed"-branch (with ranged mitigation 3 at master) would be fair. It would not mean anything to those who use CM with another ranged profession, since mitigation doesn't stack, but to the CM/Docs it would make a world of difference. This would also make the healing speed branch more useful, making master CM more attractive.

What do you all think? Is this asking too much?

Edit: Note that I'm not trying to whine about the range nerf/fix, it was a justified change, even though I think the formula needs to be reworked. But let's discuss that in other threads.

Tell this to a Commando or Bounty Hunter...(and Bounty hunters are supposed to fight Jedi...)

BHs and commandos already have ranged mitigation, and I can't see what that has to do with it.

Yeah it's a bit much. You're not a combat class. You're a combat support class who needs to rely on the meatbags for your defense.

Actually thats a completely illogical statement. Since this is a turn based game and PvP opponents do not respond to threatenshot or warningshot and no melee is going to be affected by supression fire there is no meatbag that can protect us from a charging tk/fencer blowing past 20 other ranged professions to kd/dizzy us then beat us into oblivion. If this was a twitched based game things would make alotmore sense. Which is why I'm really looking forward to JTL. No more dabbling defense stackers who make mastered professions look gimp and everything is going to be "skill" based.

They changed our poison range so we have to have really really good materials to reach the 64m cap. Sure fine I can get past that. What gets me is that they didn't bother to fix our stims so we could at least heal from the 64m cap. They want us to be within range of a certain melee type that has a 35m range "force" knockdown for poisoning. Gee,I wonder which one that is? But come the revamp I better get some defenses out of this if I'm going to be healing (if they make it so that its actually needed now) well within the ranged opponents and easy to get to from the melee opponents (like they really have to work hard at crossing 64m).

And Astyanax, you can call us a support class when we actually have something to support other than TWO places in this entire game. Carbineer is a support class, squad leader is supposed to be a support class yet poisons aside they have more usuable "support" abilities than we do.
