Thread: Combat Medic PVP-How to finish??
Hey all--I've been Combat Medic for quite some time and make all my stuff. I'm trying to become a bit more viable in PVP and have a really hard time finsihing anyone off. I realize everything is a learning process and there are counters to everything, but what would some of you suggest as a good template to compete with. I had novice carbineer and hate it at this point. I realize we are a support class so to speak but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
If you're fighting PvP, I assume you're probably using mind poison. The benefit, of course, of rifle is that it hits the mind pool as well. The downside is that it drains your mind pool if you use a special.
I played with carbine for some time, and found the ham costs, unbuffed, just too high to deal with. With a large amount of my stats migrated to mind anyway, and slightly lower rifle special costs, I find it a little easier to use.
You can theoretically migrate more of your H&A secondaries to your mind by moving away from a weapon that drains those pools. This makes you reliant on that one pool, of course.
You can also use rifle to stay at the max range of your poisons - but you will struggle to hit an opponent if they close the distance too much.
Another benefit of rifle is the jawa ion rifle - stun damage is not the friend of composite armor, which most people wear to PvP. It raises the chances of a headshot getting through a helm quite nicely.
Of course, there are downsides to this - rifle is slower than pistol and carbine (and since you have to have marksman for CM, I'm ignoring the brawler classes for now). Because it's slower, it makes you less able to heal yourself because of the delay between shots.
On larger beasties in PvE, you can use the mindshot bleed in addition to mind poison. If you're hunting with a group though, you need to still carry health poisons and ignore the rifle specials which hit mind.
If you can cope with the mind cost, through migrated stats, and liberal purchases of fishak and muon for emergencies, it's a good way of getting the final shot in.
Just one way of doing things. Pistols have nice health bleeds and knockdown, as well as relatively low HAM costs. Might be something else to think about.
Hope that's of some use
Thanks---appreciate the feedback, it seems like I just can't the whollop with the carbine that I see others do with the either pistol and rife (although I'm sure it's more that I'm not doing what I need to than that the carbine field is ineffective). I have enough points that I'm going to try the rife route and see how it plays out. I've got the doc skills to buff myself also so along with spice i should be able to keep my mind up there. Thanks again
I would suggest mastering either pistoleer or rifleman if you can let go of any (or all!)of your other skills (like art or scout). I find my auto attack at master pistoleer usually ousts the final +1 quite often.
Plus the other day, I area mind poisoned 4 people (out of 5) and fan shot took out 2 at a time as they rushed me.
The last guy got me because he stayed back, let the other guys be my poison/pistol fodder, stayed out of the aoe of the poison and the aoe of the special.
I told him more players need to think like him ![]()
It is very effective.
Whoever said you need to master rifle was a nut. Using the spraystick to finish off is one good way, but novice rifleman and Sniping 2 gives you both mind bleeds and head shot 3. No ranged damage mitigation or anything, but for extra attack strength, its amazing.
From swordsman, we do this trick. We put on the bleeds with our power hammers cause that puts on a killer bleed. Then we switch to our higher speed weapons for the rest of the fight until the critter bleeds out. Get a nice damage sliced T21 to put on any additional mind bleeds if you need them, if not, then grab a speedsliced spray stick to crank out headshot 3's.
Dog
I tried the carbineer route when I first became mcm but found the carbine too slow, I switched to pistol and it works much better. healthshot to cause some bleeding along with good health poison then mind poison can get someone down to 1 pt very quickly. if you know they are gonan kill you disease them up just to be annoying.
Rela baby,
Just go MD/MCM with 3/3/0/4 in marksman. Carry a spraystick and a scout blaster. Area poison+ Area disease, add a single for those tough to crack cookies. Wield your spraystick if you want to pop in a few headshots to finish them off.
With an area stack with a single, I can get a 1114 tick per second and then add the mind disease to boot. I know you guys are struggling against the TRs but get 2 more CM/MD, you guys will be golden.
Let me know if you want to spar.
Oh, let me rephrase that. I can get 1114 damage per tick when I stack my area with my single or vice versa.
