Thread: PVP template advice
Im an experience PVPer and with my various mods of the TKM/Swordsman/Fencer/Doc templates I was very good in individual dueling and great in group PVP. This template being similar to a MDEF/MLS in the way it is played had the same drawbacks, its fun factor is limited. You can only stroll up and smash everything's skull in so many times before it become boring to play. Also this temp along with its Jedi relative are very vulnerable to cm's. So taking this into condieration I will say that I was pretty decent with most of the templates I have put together pose CU whether it be MBH/Mrifle/4xxx cm or TKM/Sword etc. I know how to put the right food combonations together for PVP, put a good weapon together to get the right balance of sac, speed, damage etc and generally manage my pools.
The point in this is not to indicate that I am a bad--- becuase there is always a bigger fish and will always be counters. I just wanted to indicate that I feel like I can PVP a given template pretty well once I get the hang of it.
I had never done pikeman and while doing the FS grind i picked up polearms IV for an area attack. I really like the animations and fight style and found myself using a pike with my TKM/Sword/Brawler quite a bit even though I was not a pikeman. So i made a character on a new server and grinded out pikeman. I decided to do something a bit strange and I added CM to the mix. Being a defense stacker most of the time I was a brawler I had a really hard time giving up TK so I took TK 0100 for the +500 defense that COB gaves you. What this means is that by taking that once box in TK, I had to make a choice between mastering combat medic or mastering pikeman. Since pikes can be a bit slow without some major tweaks in terms of mods, ca's aa's speed powerups, etc, i felt that not mastering pikeman would make that skillset completely worthless.
So my template ended up being master pikeman/tk 0100/CM 4434
Basically this gives you warcry which is a -40 combat speed debuff which stacks with the -40 combat debuff you get from pikeman for a -80 combat speed debuff. (or so I heard they stack, people get pissed as hell because I slow them down to a crawl) I have a snare, the poisons, the fires, the debuffs.. etc.
Now I love EVERYTHING about playing this tempalte. Two isues I ran into is that although can slow combat speed considerably with this template, i take much more damage against brawlers and ranged than I did with my TKM/Sword even with the +500 defense from COB. Second issue is that this teamplate is level 75. This does not bother me that much since if I want to do high level PVE i will simply group with an 80.
I want you to know that I have dueled many people with this template but not the hardcore PVPers (maybe I have been afraid too becuase I had not bought all my foods, stims, etc and just finished the temp last night), mostly people in my group who were level 80 including a MBH/MCM and i have not been defeated. I defeated a TKM/Swordsman/Mbrawler/Medic with this template who was level 80 and I was level 69 (had 2404 cm at that time)
Here is my question i want to discuss and my dilemma...
The TKM/Swrodsman said he missed quite a bit. I am thinking that was due to my COB. I am considering giving up COB for MCM to get level 80 and the advanded diterium toss and paralyze, but if I do so then from my perspective I would be better off with rifleman or MBH since my defenses will be as bad or worse than these professions. I want to remain a pikeman but I am very nervous about having incredibly low defenses being a brawler.
Does anyone have experience with my issue, have any ideas? Is the difference betwen CM 4434 CM and MCM significant enough to drop 500 in defenses? I understand the best way is to try it and I will be doing that, however I wanted the brains who were experts with playing CM to give me their analysis of my situation. I mean one of the fallabilities of the ranged/MCM template is low defenses. I thought heavy damage from pike up close and decent brawler defenses would add somthing significant to how I played my MCM template.

i kinda see your point, xx4x tree is close to worthless for PVP, alittle food, buffs etc adn you'd never know. as for x4xx dots, not that many people can cure them, without master you'll probably miss too much to risk it, though i figure that with master & enhancers you'd do over 300 per tick for each dot, that last for 2-3 mins. thats 9000 damage from only 2 attacks. sure you use alot of mind, but then thats 6 heals for them to keep up with the ticks, ontop of you normal attacks. still, its a big tossup, you could revert to 4xx4 (something i toy with daily) and get much better defenses. 29 skill points can be alot of usefull skills if spent wisely. and the healing difference after wearing HE tapes is marginal between master and 4xx4.
i think alot of the call is down to how you fight, the CM x44x with teh dots give you alot of extra damage possibility, but in alot of templates its at the detiment to either a good defence or attacks. i think that amelee template with CM does limit itself to a narrower choice of attacks - and perhaps only 1 decent strong damage attack (but something has to be sacrificed to get the ranged support requirement for CM).
