Oh... and while we're on the subject, what would be a good race to pick for Combat Medic? (And why, if you don't mind?)

To become a Combat Medic you must reach Ranged Support Abilities Specialist, as well as Master Medic.

AS FOR which race, It is all up to you but remember to pick something with a good mind pool. Healing will ravage a mind pool, if not setup right. I am a rodian and seem to do pretty well. I have not tried medic with any other race, so I am not sure what else is out there. Stat Migration will be your friend, and don't be afraid touse it. I like the rodian race due to its highregeneration rates. They do lack strength though. Remember a Combat Medics first job is to keep your group up fighting the fight and help attack after your group has been taking care of.

I am a bit confused as to what skills you need to become a Combat Medic. The Manual says one thing, and the strat guide says another. Normally I'd believe the manual first, but I want to be sure.

So if you only have to reach ranged support specialist, would it be possible to reach master combat medic as well as say master carbineer, master pistoleer, or master rifleman?

yep its possible, you'll have about 6 or so skill points left i think

Theoretically yes. In addition to mastering Combat Medic, you could also master any of the ranged weapon proficiencies
