Thread: Training and tips
I'm wondering how everyone else handles training people and tips.
Right now, I'm at a point where I do not need the apprentice points. I'm capped. I've had to pay for a great deal of my Combat Medic training as I was one of the first on Chilastra.
Are you all asking for tips in advance or just waiting to see if they come? I've had one person that I've trained 4 different skills and he didn't so much as give me a wave afterwords. Needless to say, I won't train him again.
But still, I'm curious how others that had to pay for all their training from trainers are handling this sort of thing.
Charging for training anything non-elite is silly, there are tons of people who need app. exp (to get master) and we already saw (on Chilastra) people offering money to TRAIN others to get it.
However people training Elite professions do not probably need app. exp anymore, and those skills are expensive, so I understand people charging for them thouhg I always train for free (and I payed for all but 3 of mine - coincidently Valina was the one who trained me the other 3
Heh, well I'll happily continue to train you.

i have to agree that non-elite professions really dont need to be tipped for, too many people have them and it is a waste of tim, plus a lot fo the time the person will still tip you if it like lvl 4 of something. now with elite professions, demand the money up front, if they dont like it they can go find the combat medic trainer and pay 5 times as much. especially with combat medic being as not too common of a skill as it is they are pretty much relying on your for training or they are screwed. jsut group up with them and wait for them to tip you before you start, dont even go with that half now half later thing, that only continues it later on and gets annoying. what it comes down to is how much to tip. i ussually do 1k for first lvl. since i am jsut now getting above the first lvl of this stuff i ahve yet to come up with an exact pricing chart but i think it should go somethign like 500 more for each lvl higher than the first. so second lvl 1500, 3rd 2k, and so on.
I ama master CM on Chilastria, and I paid full NPC price for every block in the CM tree. In order to make some of that money back I have been charging a flat fee of 2k per box, except to PA members. Ithas workedout for me very well. I haven't had anyone complain about that being to high yet and I have a list of about 5-8 people that contact me when they need training. I have probably made about half of the 130k credits I spent on training so far. Sure helpsto payfor my house, factory, 6 medium harveters, and all that **edit** traveling.

I also powered through most of the combat medic proffesion, and found myself paying out cash for nearly every skill box. I know I wasn't the first to master the profession on my server, but probably the second unless there is a recluse out there. But training is on a sliding scale, and the longer the game is around the less training is going to be worth.
That said it doesn't really bother me if I get tipped or not. It never going to be an effective way to make money, even if they were paying full price they'd be hard pressed to keep up with the income than can be generated per minute running missions.
But through training I did get to meet a good number of other combat medics out there. And several of them have become most valuable contacts for find resources, hunting partners, or just good people to spend time with. Their is a local casino with the slogan "Friendship is the largest Jackpot" and I'll tell you the friendsship I formed responding to people asking for training has far exceeded 130k easily replacable credits.
....Pistoleers on the otherhand. Excluding those that double as combat medics, I can't remember the name of a single one. Of course this is probably because I don't run around with a Pistoleer title so I don't get as many requests.

How in the world is that I've missed you on Chilastra?

I don't look at it as a way to make money so much as a way to recoup costs and just plain good manners.
As to your point about meeting some good CMs out there, yes this definitely has happened to me. There is a group of us on Chilastra that have shared training, resource locations, harvester crop, etc. I find them invaluable allies.
It's the new bunch of CMs that are just now starting out that I was more concerned about. I don't mind sharing and help out my fellow CM, I guess I just want a little appreciation or at minimum a 'thanks'.
I paid for all of my CM training. I just train whoever asks, its not like money is too hard to come by. I made all the money to train by doing destroy missions while I wait for my factory to make me parts. I personally wouldnt ask for payment to train someone, but there is nothing wrong in asking for something. After all, that training does add up after awhile.
Nomdorn, what's your ingame name? )
i usualy tip around 1k per skill trained if the person doesn't need any organics or chemicals but i don't expect anything when i train people. the problem currently is, that more people need apprenticeship exp than other people need training. I got part ofthe 620 forMaster Medic by training a friend Survey IV 2 times (he was capped at Survey Exp)and powerleveling him on carbine skills for an hour (i.e. him unlearning int carbine every time he reached 1k carbine exp)
