Thread: Will rancor biles be fixed with the CM poison/disease range fix?

I'm a CM and a fairly busy supplier of CM goods on my server, but I fully applaud the changes that are being done to keep the CM power to a more reasonable level. While I enjoyed throwing poisons 80+ meters, I realize that it was never intended to work in that fashion.

However, I do take issue with the fact that Rancor Biles will be even more useless than ever. Rancor biles are a special component that replaces the Dispersal Mechanism, but the only stat on it that actually applies to the poison or disease is charges. Regular DM components also have range and area affect range.

If the range fix is going to apply to poison and diseases, can Rancor biles be fixed to actually have a range and aoe component, even if they are low to balance out? Having values of zero (effectively) makes them next to useless to use in poisons & diseases, and with the range fix, they will be no better than doctor stims for range.

For a suggestion, I'd at the very least change the power value on the biles (which is pretty much unused) to be range, so for example the standard 70 charge, 5 power bile would be at least a 70 charge, 5 range component. This would raise the value of the components to be worth using, and would make the exceptional ones with ranges of 10+ worth all the more.

I think rancor biles are well balanced right now. you gain 50/100 charges, at the cost of 15 range. If they were given any reasonable range, they would become strictly better than most dispersal mechanisms (especially when crossed with spider venom).

I view rancor bile as being a very specialized component, but still useful at times. If you really want to complain about a broken loot drop, I would say the Dunkawah Poison is what really needs work (although I think there are "more important" things to address before that).

Edit: Fixed spelling of Dunkawah.

I realize that something needs to be traded off for the enhanced charges, but it seems extreme to limit it to a range and aoe value of zero. You don't see Janta blood with no charges, just reduced to compensate for the high power.

I'm not asking for the ranges obtainable on advanced components, just ranges that are something other than zero.

At the very least, confirmation from a dev that the Rancor biles are indeed as designed, and not a bug/mistake for not having a range/aoe stat. If a dev said that the biles are as designed, and are not intended to have those stats, I can accept that. I just hate the idea that they are borked because of lack of oversight.

So what you are saying is you would want a token "1 range", just to demonstrate that the devs actively chose a short range instead of forgot about it. Possibly a token "1 area of effect"as well? Hmm, I can see that as being appropriate. As long as the range and area of effect is exceptionally reduced (not just reduced, *exceptionally* reduced) to compensate for the very large number of charges.

For that matter, I'm hoping they will put a range attribute into a liquid suspension or something, so ranged stim packs have a range comparable with poisons and diseases. Then again, a better thing to do would be reduce the range of the poisons and diseases... But that's another conversation, and will be in place in the next few days. I hope it turns out as I am hoping it will, and not as I fear it will.

Edit: I just had a thought. Legendary rancor bile: 300 charges, 25 range, 30 power.
