Thread: can anyone give me tips on being a combat medic?
Other than that....don't solo and get either TK or BH as you are going to be tanking alot (whether you like it or not)
:-)
Hi,
I personally use Paralyse and Tyroid rupture quite a bit, since the first paralyses the foe for bout 10 seconds (not sure if it is 10 or 12 at master) and the second debuffs, reduces their combat speed. I Normally never apply poisons or fires on PvE since i find that paralyse (while he is paralysed you can debuff him with all the rest of CM non-damaging debuffs in all impunity) works well in ... well, errr... paralysing the adversary and letting you do your stuff.
My personal advice would be Paralyse, get some distance, shoot way and repeat (if you are ranged) and Paralyse, debuffs and hit him with all states at your disposal (if you are melee).
I'm sure other players will have equally good advice, or even better, but this has always worked for me
Hope this helps,
Fesse

all of that is being done with only the carbines line in Novice Marksman. the rest of my points are tied up in FS.
the template would be even MORE deadly with 4400 Carbineer added in.
i was laughing so hard i forgot the tips....heh
- learn to use ALL of your heals in rotation (bacta spray, bacta toss, bacta shot, stim-Ds)
- DON'T waist time waiting for your DoTs to stick - if they don't stick on the first try, use your weapons to deal some damage, use your debuffs and most of all USE SHOCK if you are in melee range. THEN go back and try your DoTs again. you can waist valuable time trying over and over to get your DoTs to stick. you have the power to heal yourself, use it. CM is not an insta-kill profession. you use DoTs and debuffs to supplement your weapon damage, making your combat profession MUCH more deadly.
- if you are not used to soloing a lot, buy enhancers. anything 1000 + will help out quite a bit. i myself nearly never use them. i don't need my ticks to be higher than they are, and i don't need the duration any longer than it is because i have yet to have a creature or NPC outlive the duration of my fire and poison DoTs, so i won't waist the credits. however, as i said, if you are not used to soloing and you plan on starting the enhancers will help
- in a group, healing is the most effective taunt in the game. that's right, if you heal your group members with bacta sprayin combat, you are going to draw the agro of any and all baddies in the area, and if you use a single heal you will AT LEAST draw the mob off the player you just healed. be aware of the 'agro problem' and have your party members aware as well so they can defend you as you heal.
- you cannot heal wounds as a combat medic, you cannot heal wounds as a medic, ONLY docs can heal wounds now.
this is just some stuff off the top of my head. if you have any questions please feel free to ask
- Thyroid Rupture, to reduce enemy attacks on myself.
- Leg Sweep ( TKM ) or other melee ability, hopefully to put the opponent on the ground so I have some free time without being hit. Also, it fits in here nicely because the med timer is still spinning.
- Deut. Toss, to get the DoT going.
- Another physical attack while the med timer spins ( usually /armorBreak, to drop their defense for a bit )
- Neurotoxin to stack the DoT's. Helps.
- Another physical attack while the med timer spins ( probably /meleeStrike, as it does OK damage for a TKA and has relatively lost cost ).
- Electrolyte Drain if the opponent is ranged, just to make me have to follow them fewer stops while they try to back up.
At that point, just settle in to melee abilities, firing off the occasional heal on myself to stay at the top of my health bar, while watching theirs grind down to the bottom. As a TKA I use Center of Balance religiously to ensure that the damage I take is relatively light, and it's rare that I get in trouble unless I forget to monitor CoB or do something stupid, like take on full packs of foesat once.

Another accomplished solo here, post CU ( although I do enjoy a group outing as well ). TKM/MCM or TKM/MD are both good solo PvE templates. TKM/MCM has better damage output, but TKM/MD has an edge on survivability with /bactaInfusion.
Can solo singles on Dath without really trying ( NightSisters, Rancors in particular ), doubles with few worries, and three at a time if I'm careful and/or lucky. Adding opponent #4 can put me in a pine box or on a sprinting spree to get away from them.
On Corellia I run Rebel missions w/ level 80-82 opponents and try to aggro two opponents at a time, just to speed up combat by DoT-ing a pair and then focusing on finishing one at a time.
I'm fond of the following order on initial sequence, range and situation permitting:
- Thyroid Rupture, to reduce enemy attacks on myself.
- Leg Sweep ( TKM ) or other melee ability, hopefully to put the opponent on the ground so I have some free time without being hit. Also, it fits in here nicely because the med timer is still spinning.

don't solo? don't solo? BWWAAAAAHAHAHAHAA!! what gave you THAT idea?i LOVE soloing as a MCM / MBH.... LOVE IT.Dath is my usual stomping grounds, killing Singing Mountain Clan, Nightsisters, and Rancor (all in all they are levels 77-82)
all of that is being done with only the carbines line in Novice Marksman. the rest of my points are tied up in FS.
the template would be even MORE deadly with 4400 Carbineer added in.i took up MCM a LONG time ago so i could solo. the healing and the extra damage from DoTs make the profession good for soloing, and now with the debuffs it is REALLY good for soloing.you might argue that it is the MBH part of the template that allows me to solo...but try taking on a level 81 rancor without buffs, without extra DoTs and without the ability to heal yourself...
Praxi never mentioned having a second prof, so I was assuming he is just a CM and nothing else. Also no mention if he is master yet.
Oh, and yeah, Paralyse/debuff/run/shoot is a good tactic too for range.
My template MCM, MCH, Medic 0440, Marksman 0304. Very, I repeat very good PVE template.
I can solo creatures/MOB's up to lvl 82 easily. I wouldn't dare go against a lvl 80 elite though. You still have to know your limits. What does this template give me? Incredible healing. Yes incredible. Ability for my pet to pull one MOB at a time. This works very well. As my pet is tanking I can slap on any/all DOT's I want. I usually do things in this order. Shock, Thyroid rupture, burn, poison. Then after this is all done I can just shoot with placed shot. I never get the hate from my pet, and I can heal it.
Grouping is another matter altogether. I usually pull out a pet, but only use it to guard me, or ocassionally attack a MOB. Only throw a heal in when necessary, or when there is only one MOB hitting the tank. If more than one mob is on the tank I will send in my pet to gather hate from the other mob before I do a heal. As other people have said make sure your tanks know how to hold agro. Area taunt is a good thing.
MCM is a good profession, you just have to learn how to use it correctly.
well the other posts have pretty much summed up several paths in CM you can take, but i think there is one very important lesson to learn, that is the highest need for understanding.apart from medical warfare and blasting people to bits, when in a xp group be sure you are aware of the consequences for using bacta-spray with alot of mobs present! bacta-spray is a great way to get every mob on your bad side, if you go down, your teams heals go down, unless you have a doc aswell.
bacta-spray is great as long as you look around to make sure that there isnt alot of mobs that are being attacked, 1 or 2 is really easy to deal with, 3 or 4 if they are well over lvl80 are going to beat you like a red headed step child who just knocked over a very expensive vase!
