hey, and thanks for reading this,

I just made combat medic today, after about 24 hours grinding. My current template is a Master Doctor, Master Combat Medic. Although my role is wanting to be a support unit for other people (guild members, friends, alternate character), I can't help but to wish to do some soloing as well.

I bought some disease and poison packs today (2 crates, each mind area). My goal is to do a lot of PvE yet.

My question is if I would be worthwhile even in a group of people who are doing PvE? I tried out my poison and disease (stats below). On a 5k HAM enemy, the disease took about 5-6 minutes to finally tick down to nothing, which I just sat in the middle of the water and watched so I didn't get killed. Will I be worthwhile in a group of TKAs, commandos, fencers, etc? From the tick rate, I feel that I won't be able to tick much, if anything, off any large enemy while my counterpart players are doing massive damage.

Could someone comment on this?

The stats for the poison and disease are:
Mind Poison Area (poison C):
Potency: 129
Duration: 275 (is this seconds?)
Range: 39
Area Effected: 31
Mind Disease area (disease C):
Potency: 129
Effectiveness: 88
Duration: 795
Range: 39
Area Effected: 33

What does each of the above mean? Are these good packs, bad packs? Can I do better as a ranged support unit in PvE? How well does a CM work on the corvette for example?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm pretty new to this. Any help in this would be great. So far, by the few things I've thrown, I'm very happy with this profession right now. I hope it will be of great help to groups, as well as the possibility to still solo some.

Thanks

The explanation of the stats of the poisons and diseases is listed in the FAQ. You didn't mention the effectiveness of your area poisons, but judging from the other stats listed your medicines look fairly good. (The area poisons are in the lower 200's effectiveness, I'm guessing.)

As for the place of poisons and diseases in PvE combat, they very much have a place. However, because they do constant damage they are somewhat "backwards", in that they are effective where other combatants are weaker (such as heavy armor, 80% resist enemies), and weak where other combatants are strong (a 10k 5% resist enemy which a TKM can tear through). Basically, if a combat is going to last under 3 minutes, you will not have much of effect on it with poisons or diseases. However, in a small group fighting a peko peko albatross or tusken witch doctor, you will do a lot more damage than you realize (more so than many "normal" combatants, depending on the circumstances).

Two other thigns to note. The first is that diseases actually gain effectiveness as an opponent gains battle fatigue. So while it might seem useless if you just toss one and watch it, if you are fighting a "big enemy" and the battle lasts for 10 minutes or so, your diseases will quickly cause BF to accumulate BF on the target, and your diseases will gain effectiveness (to the point of equaling a poison in effectiveness). The other is that poisons can stack on each other to add effectiveness, more details of which are listen in the FAQ.

Thanks for your help,

Are these poisons/disease about mid-grade for CMs, or high-grade? I haven't tried to create my own yet, which is why I'm asking.

Thanks again.

Honestly, that question is somewhat unfair. Every server has different resources, so what is good on one server is average on another, and bad on a third. (For example, if your server hasn't had a spawn of Eleton reactive gas for 5 months, I would expect your poisons and diseases to be much weaker on average than on another server.) Not to mention if you are buying poisons, quality isn't as important as quality *available*, so you should be able to comparison shop around to answer your question yourself... If this is the best you can find then that's really the end of the story until you start crafting your own. Also, about 70% of the quality of a poison or disease is based on the effectiveness, which you don't list for your poison.

Given all these conditionals and caveatsthough, I would put those poisons and diseases as mid-level great, non-spider venom poisons. Not excellent, but pretty good to use...
