HA! Love the title...

Anyway, this may be nothing new, but I think I recently figured out the calculation for how many wounds are taken when a CM uses Mind Heal. Also, I see people asking about Mind Heal all the time, but have never found any definitive answersso this may very well be news to us all.

This is from my own testing, alone.By posting this, I'm hoping to inspire the CM community totry and reproduce my experiment and either prove or disprovemy theory. There's one interesting surprise in here, so here goes:

WHEN A CM USES MIND HEAL:

  • The Mind pool determines how many woundsthe CM takes toall 3 mind statsfrom use of the Mind Heal skill.

  • The amount of woundsthe CM takes to his/her mind stats (all 3 of them) is approximately 4% of his/her own total mind pool value.

  • **Dancer's buffs affect mind pool total values, and therefore are included in these calculations.**

Startling Deduction:

Having your mind poolbuffed by a dancer INCREASES the amount of wounds you receive when you use the Mind Heal skill (acquired at Master Ranged Healing Speed).

How I Tested It:

Simple enough... My Combat Medic has his mind stats migrated in the following manner:

  • MIND: 1000

  • FOCUS: 800

  • WILLPOWER: 650

Normally, a Mind Heal will wound each of my mind stats for approximately 40. Typically, my mind pool is wounded for 40 flat, while focus wounds for about 41 and willpower an even greater 42 (reason unknown).

Now, it so happened that there was a dancer in one of my hunting groups. On a camping break, he danced and I watched him briefly to heal my mind wounds. In so doing, I received a mind buff of 250. That's 250 to my total mind pool value.

Post-buff, my stats were the following:

  • MIND: 1250

  • FOCUS: 800

  • WILLPOWER: 650

  • Our group got on their feet and continued fighting, and sure enough (oh, the woes of the CM... =p) I found it necessary to use Mind Heal on a member from my hunting group. Paranoid as I am about healing mind without a musician buff, I immediately checked my character screen for a quick damage appraisal.

50 wounds to Mind, Focus, and Willpower. I was so shocked I almost fell out of my chair. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating... this isn't too exciting, folks, but bear with me...

So, this is where I gotthe 4% calculation from. 4% of 1250 = 50. It fits, almost perfectly...

    Of Note:

I just thought I'd mention here that musician buffs to Focus and Willpower apparently do not affect the amount of wounds you take when healing mind. Substats seem to have no place in the calculations.

    Final Thoughts:

So, all said and done, it would appear safe to say that according to my theory dancer buffs may be useful, but do provide forthe CM some adverse side effects. The question now seems to be: How much extra mind am I willing to get, at the cost ofextra wounds when healing mind?

Some will look at it like this: Well, the amount of wounds I get are based on a percentage. A constant percentage. This percentage never changes, so in ratio to my mind pool's total, I am always wounded the same.

Others will look at it like this: Mind wounds suck. I'm sticking to musician buffs or none at all. This seems to do me just fine!

Me, I think I'll choose the latter of the two views

As a final word, I will reiterate the fact that in order for theory to become fact (or fiction), this experiment must be reproduced to the same effect. Give it a try.

    Thanks for reading,

Interesting... I just mind buffed for 1000 and mind healed and wounds remained 40... Theory may be shattered...

Did you note what your Battle Fatigue was in all of those situations? I think BF might be the deciding factor, which could be why you see the stair-stepping of wounds from 40-42 as BF get's incremented with each wound set taken, at a guess.

The reason the ammount of wounds went up after getting healed by the dancer in a camp was because of the fact you had BF, apparently.

Good try at the theory though, at least y'gave it a shot

Keep up trying to nail this one down, it's been bugging me as well. I never know whether I'll get 40 wounds or 50, and it makesa big difference in battle and while raiding. Heh, I've even managed to incap myself 7 times during one raid from this.

Yeah. Another theory shattered... Mind heal remains a mystery...

Man, this is one tough one to crack!

Maybe, maybe not. You never answered the question about what you BF was. I think BF is the key.

i've noticed that when my BF is at around 100, the amount of wounds per heal i get is approximately double. i'm not sure if it's still the case (need to take my CM out hunting again to find out) and i haven't tried what happens at 200BF, but prehaps i should go find out some time

I thought it was 10% of the heal... *shrug* i've only used mind heal once so far and it was a 412 heal and took 40 mind 41 focus 42 willpower... or however the pattern goes.

It's definitely not this. With 0 battle fatigue (and no mind wounds), I get 40/41/42 wounds every single time, regardless of heal strength. I think battle fatigue is the key, since this determines how many wounds you take for other wounding activities (/tend, /tendw, disease, or regular combat).

Alright, cool. I guess it's time for me to rack up some BF...
