do area poisonsdiseases effect friends? I'm about to reach the "area" level and I wanted to make sure they don't before I tried it in group and wiped out all my friends. Forgive me if this is a stupid question.

No they will not affect your friends. That will only happen if you are both overt and of oposite factions or if you duel each other.
