I am a master CM and I am a goat. I love PvP, its my favorite part of the game. But when it comes down to it. I need a group in order to put a den't in a player. When I go on raids, my job is to throw and AOE mind and sit back, the rest of my group finishes them off, and they get the DB. So I don't get any faction points, I just sit, toss, and wait. Well thats wrong. People keep saying "we are a support class" I say no, a doctor, chef, tailor. Those are support, I am not a medic I am a COMBAT medic, I should be able to toe to toe it with a master commando, master BH, master pistoleer, etc. And come out even. And now they wana nerf us? My poisons do great, about 400+ each tick, but I am dead before that. Sure, they may incap., but not till after they DB me. Now how is that right. I bought the game wanting to be a COMBAT medic, couse I want to fight. Now my skills suck in PvE and I am the goat of the group for PvP. I know I am going to catch flak for this post. But we are combat class, NOT support class. If anything we need more power....a weapon, an all in one HAM hitting poison, somthing with power. I should not have to run from a master TK, I should be standing there laughing.

Well, I sorta agree with you. I DO believe that we are primarily a support class, and as such, should be a little less powerful than the true combat classes. But I'm with you, I love PvP and if I'm alone, it's dang near impossible for me as a master cm. I've been reading a lot about this new 1-point change so I spent the last two days running around Naboo alone PvPing. Out of about 12 fights, I won 2. The two people I beat...

1.A business man who ran the whole time

2.An already half dead TKA who I still had to use my pet on to get him down.

In the meantime, I got handled by countless BH's, commandos and pistoleers. After my death, I'd check the combat channel and it would read something like this...

You use sap shot on "Joe" for 81 points of damage. "Joe" shoots at you and hits for 251 points of damage. You apply posion to "Joe". You catch on fire! " You shoot at "Joe" and hit for 97 points of damage.(Weee!"Joe" bleeds for 191 damage!) "Joe" shoots at you for 310 points of damage! Your armor prevented 110 points of damage! (Oh no! Only 40 health left! Come on, come on, tell me I'm ready to heal more damage!) You shoot at "Joe" and hit for88 points of damage. You feel dizzy! You are now ready to heal more damage. (Alright! I've got a chance! But oh no! Before I can press that hotkey, the fire begins to burn me! For 585 damage!) You have become incapacitated.

Notice how I was dead loooong before my posion ticked off the first time? That's how my PvP experience goes 90% of the time if I'm alone. And it's not just commandos and bh's. Pistoleers, riflemen, ch's. All the true combat classes put me to shame in terms of damage output and speed at which they can deal that damage. But, I can deal with that because we are a support class and we shine when we're in a group. Although there's still that problem of no faction for us cause we NEVER db anyone. But I get really tired of all the people saying we own PvP and we need to be nerfed because we're overpowered or whatever. Out of all the cm's I know, and there are quite of few of them now, especially with this whole holocron craze, maybe two of them can decimate an entire city on their own. The rest of us...no chance to live if we get caught alone. I don't even consider the 1-point change a nerf, but I gaurantee that when we adjust to that and we're still able to use our posions to kill, the rest of the galaxy will be clamoring against us again. I love this profession and I'm not leaving it, but it sure is frustrating sometimes!

I tend to agree with you rhaspede, most CM's really don't seem to be that good at PvP especially solo. Many times in AH i'll just sit and watch rather than fight. The CM's involved in the battles tend to be very ineffective, with notable exceptions.

Any rebel on Eclipse has heard of Mimi. I'm certain she's part of the reason why people think we're so overpowered. But let me say, she is an Exceptional PvP CM, very few have been anywhere near as good as her at it and I know my own skills benefited greatly just from watching how she fights. If I had gone into combat without that knowledge I gained from her I'm sure I would just be a so-so CM in PvP, until I discovered the best ways to fight on my own.

Just yesterday I was totally obliterated by a guy using dizzy. He had his game plan in mind and knew how he was going to handle whatever came his way. With proper forethought anyone can beat anyone.

I just got finished raiding Bestine solo. I had my tactics planned well before I got there and the result was 15 imps killed (some multiple times) and a couple pets and troopers killed. Until I ran into a group that was prepared and paying attention I was able to walk freely through the city with my overt tag showing. The guys that took me out (wtg Zak'nafein, Exodis and others who's names I can't remember) showed great class. After they beat me I went to the Bestine med center, found an imp doctor and paid her to come cure the poison on those guys so they wouldn't get stuck in the incap-dance. I would recommend this policy to all CM's, it'll help people realize we're not really trying to grief them.

No amount of skill points, special abilities or uber-weapons will ever compensate for knowing how best to use your abilities and having solid tactics and strategies before you jump into the fire

I also agree with the original post. i've said it before and listed my reasons why, but in a group the CM is nothing but a fifth wheel. Redundant at best, useless at worst.

Try it more like this:
Shoot at target from 60m away, achieve knockdown.
Poison target.
As target stands, knock them down again.
Disease target.

Rinse, repeat. If you are against a group youll probably die, but make certain to add the word "Area" in front of poison and disease. It may hurt your crafting skills by focusing on a combat line instead of Doc, but you can pretty much rule in PvP or PvE with the right combos.

Good idea, except that pistol specialists dont' get any sort of knockdown move. The inability to keep the opposition off me for any amount of time is a huge disadvantage to the cm profession in my view. We don't do massive damage, and we can't stay alive long enough for the damage we do deal to take effect. Maybe I need to re-think my tactics or something...

Ailix,

It's not that really hard to be effective in PvP as a CM especially when you're a MD/MCM, simply buff yourself up, wear a suit of your best PvP composite armor, get a crate of PSG 3 and several crates of Area and Single Mind poinson C then you go run around dropping the overt like flies.

A mind buff from both a Master Musician and a Master Dancer is a very nice plus but not necessary. Always have a hot key for Moun Gold, Pixie dust, cure poison, cure disease, cure all stat macro.

Throw your poison at your max range, which is 64 to 80 meters for me depends on my mood. Even at 70 meters, my poison does 408 damage per tick in single and 330 area. You go with the flow with the enemy, so if he's running at you, you run away from him, but if he's running away from you, you proceed to follow him, always stay at the extreme range of your poison pack range.

If the opponent has cure poison ability, then double up your area poison with single. The only thing you have to watch out is another MD/MCM. If you run into one of those, it really all depends on who has the best poison, better range, who landed the first poison and who's quicker on the cure poison. It's really a coin toss so I won't elaborate on this.

If you're a Zabrak, which you should be as a CM, it's the only character you should pick to becom a CM. Use your equlibrium effectively and you'll live through the most difficult encounter.

The real art for Combat Medic is not in PvP, it's in the art of crafting. Without the poison/disease pack, a combat medic is nothing more than a glorified master medic. Maximize distance on all poison pack without sacrificing power or potency is an art. You have to fine tune and balance everthing with only 10 points, unless you have experimentation tapes.

Hehe Tsunami, you accurately describe a good portion of my tactics Or actually, my prefight planning. Buffs, armor, weaponry ... all of those are just as you mentioned and integral to having success in solo PvP. Sadly, so many CM's seem to think they're CH's or BH's and can just run into battle without that kind of planning. Usage of terrain, looking for fall-back positions to heal and/or hide etc ... come into play also.

No, it's not terribly hard to be effective at PvP. Not if someone (of any class) wants to take the time to prepare and plan for battle beforehand. Most people don't seem to though. I sit there and watch the fighting sometimes and can't help but be amused by what some people think is going to work.

BTW, I wish my server had the kind of resources yours appears to have! The best poisons I can make with the best resources I'm capable of finding tend to end up in the 400 dmg and 45m range. I've seen 64-80m range poison on Eclipse, but it tends to be fairly weak. I have to resort to coming within 45m to attack my targets and 90% of the time they just stand there, even when we're both overt! I haven't found a need for the long range poison yet, since most people just aren't paying attention.

I agree that the pre-fight is just as important as the fight itself. And I usually try my best to get prepared as I can before I go into battle. The food and buffs and such I can match, but I notice that everyone says that during PvP, you need to be wearing your best suit of composite armor. How is it that medics are affording that stuff? On Kauri, composite armor sells for no less than 60k per piece. (That's for an arm I think) I don't know about yall, but I don't have 150k just laying around that I can spend on an awesome suit of armor. And with only my medic crafting skills, my stims can't compete with doctor made ones. I usually have about 20k on me. 30k if I'm having a really good week. With my awesome payout of around 1.5k per mission and the overabundance of tips I recieve for healing, I'd only have to do about 150 missions to get that armor. Is there an easier way?

I'm guessing you're not CM/Doc, so you're having to pay for your buffs also. You can skip the mind buff if necessary or not available and just go for a helmet, since mind is the thing you're most worried about protecting. Just fix up your macro to remove the helmet, toss poison, put helmet back on.

Honestly, with full buffs I very rarely use armor anyway. Just sometimes when I expect I may really really need it.

As for making the cash. If you're in a faction run missions til you have the fp for three decent troopers. I'm a reb so I have 3 specforce troops at 450 fp each. Call two of them and group them. Go to the mission terminal and look for two missions in the 4-5K range and take them. Then call out your third trooper, group him and go do the missions. With that extra trooper you should be able to complete the missions fairly easily with a decent payout and nice fp

Not sure with the coming nerf what rank it'll take to have those 3 troopers, but you can go for promotions if necessary to have them.

A nice side bonus to this, especially if you get some decent rank, is that you can also turn around the fp you're gaining and sell it for 50-100 credits per fp. That's an extra 2-10k per mission depending on your rank and faction.

I just thought of an idea that might work, let me know what you all think.

Now what if your poisons effectivness was effected by group size? IE if you are solo, your poisons are strong enough to make you a good fight for the "true" combad classes. But then if you were grouped say for each person in group it went down a little. Now I understand how this has holes in it. But its a thought. That why with you are doing a big raid with a group you are "even" or at least more of what they all want. But you are still effective. But when you are solo, maybe defending your town, or a solo raid, your poisons would give you a better advantage then a group fight. Couse solo we got no back up. If I hit a commando, he can heal himself, he then hits me, I can't heal couse I just hit him...so I gotta wait. The problem is out offense, and our deffense are bundled together. But adding that extra power when solo could give us a more even playing field.

I like what you all have to say, and I do the same, I prep. buff, but on my composit etc. But still, you dont always have time to stand at max range, what if you are on the defensive end? You are sitting in the med center healing people when a BH or TK comes to raid. Your screwed. You dont have time to buff, or any of that, the best you can do is throw on your armor, and by then, you are usualy in a dizzy knockdown already. And no, you can't do a pistol knockdown, then poison, then knockdown, couse knockdowns are 30 seconds apart, and you only get that with pistol, so that means your not a doc, so you can't buff. And that range is un heard of on my server. I have some of the best poisons on starsider. There stock range without my attributes are around 20-27m. And EVERY SINGLE resourse needed for adv. poison/disease components sells on average 20-30 per 1 unit. Thats a lot of cash. 50 crates of average mind C's are in the 100-175k range if not more. So I must craft my own stuff, buy my own resourses, pay for some buffs, buy a set of armor, buy some pixie's, then go with a GROUP to fight, so I can die about 5 to 10 times per raid, without getting any DB's in and loosing FP the whole time. Yes, we are a powerfull class, but like I said before, our power doesnt kick in untill we are already dead. And I do use strategy. If I go against a class, I poison whatever they use IE BH and commandos use action with there specials, so I poison that. But still, its not adding up. Admit it, we are horable at PvE, I am not talking about mixed classes, say you were only a master CM, nothing else. You would suck at PvE. and PvP your good in a group, but just to help them get kills and points. I know my AOE minds are taking out a lot of people in a raid, or at least helping a lot to take them out, but they see that I am a CM and start going after me first and formost. So I die, loose FP, then they go down, and a teamate gets the DB. I am a team player....but come on? How is this fair again? I dont mind the 1ham rule IF they fix us in some other way, give us a weapon, give us a difence, give us somthing so we can be more of a COMBAT class, like I said before we are COMBAT medics. Strategy, buffing, armor, etc. can only do so much. Try telling a commando to use strategy...no he just hits area attack and burns everyonein site. But we have to pick targets, throw a poison, then duck and cover....I am just trying to help our class.
