Thread: PvP tips for a MRM/MCM
hmm, im a mdoctor/mrifleman and im thinking about going mcm tomorrow to. Today i dueled my tkm/pikeman friend and got OWNED. I think your going to need to stick mainly to rifleman skills here because your going to need as much range as possible. What i adventally did was a kd,snare, run about 30 meters, startle shot(gives you a good 5 seconds before he can attack) then sniper. The only problem was i had him down to about 40% health and then i jsut got destroyed but luckily i won. 1v1 melee vs ranged melee usually wins is waht im guessing. But i can guarntee you in pvp you rarely see many melee and if you do 2 rifleman can stomp him into the ground. The real way for ranged to beat a melee is root. Anyways, i was pvping solo today in theed for about 30 minutes and a pistoleer/riflmean and a cm/swordsman came up. I knew the swordsman would be the one just wasting me if i tried to kill rifles frist so i rooted the swordsman, then i just shot him to about 40m while running. Then the rifleman rooted me and i ended up startle shooting and then sniper shooting him for the kill. Then i healed up and 1,2,3 killed the rifleman. If the rifleman would have rooted me about 5 seconds earlier i would of lost but i got lucky. But usually in pvp not many brawlers survive as there are those who can root them and just pepper.

well ironically enough one of the things you mentioned could possibly be what you're doing wrong. (note: while not CM myself atm i have rifle, have been a cm pre-cu, and feel fairly-well acquainted w/ the systems, so take what i say w/ a grain of salt if need be)
firstly, i noticed how you mentioned at the end of your post that once you stick the dots paralyze is useless. keep this in mind! On a similar note, the same rule applies for adv startle shot (which is a lifesaver btw...you can reduce your dmg taken by 50+% in 1v1 duels if you just spam it, usually giving yourself enough time to heal or root, kd, etc) that being that ANY dmg taken will screw over the delay effect. I'm not sure how long paralyze lasts, but keep in mind that once it's applied you have that many seconds to heal, run, /tickle...whatever you want. They're stuck for however much time, so use your time wisely. Personally, i recommend using that time for healing yourself up that damage.
Secondly, you didn't mention any food or drinks. while there's a good chance that you're already using 'em, if you're not, be sure to...especially with the horrid rifleman SAC, you're action will be gone before you know it if you're not careful. look for ruby biel if you're finding you need to heal faster than you can, and think about popping something else to suppliment your defenses, mind regen, or overal health. Look for stuff that works well for you and keep those foods onhand ALWAYS. that is, assuming you can afford it. ![]()
Thirdly...MACROS!!!! yes, they're still viable and wonderful things to have on hand. at the least make yourself a macro with all your different heal timer moves in it right in a row, so if you get down there you can just hit one button instead of 2 or 3 and you'll find that you're healing yourself for say 1500 instead of 600 because of the rapid combination of heal timers(not real numbers, have no idea what you really heal for). another thing that you can do is macro certain commands and then bind them to the keyboard. how? make a macro that's just a single command, then go edit your keymap settings so that a single button press...for example the "p" key...will activate a command so you don't have to have it in your f1-12 key slots and you'll find you have more versitility at yoru fingertips. In this example you could make a "macro" that is "Paralyze" which simply consists of the /paralyze command and then bind that command to the "p" key and then you've got paralyze on your keyboard whenever you need it, without using an f-key slot or having to type it in. I would however caution against this for keys that you commonly use for things like typing (p key may be a poor choice if your friends name is "palibacca" or something for example...i reccomend the [,],\,=,-,end,insert, home, etc keys because chances are you aren't typing them in every 3rd or 4th keystroke and you wont be using them for anything else in pvp...on another tangent, if you want something cool but possibly slightly annoying try binding your paralyze command to your "print sreen" button and you'll find you're comp lags and you get a snapshot of someone getting paralyzed everytime you use the command. your comp will start to fill up though so watch your swg files where the ss's are! )
Hope this helps some, i'll be around later maybe to answer more q's if you have 'em.

Honestly, drop cm and get doc then go get some cybernetic arms. Sit back at 80m and beat the crap out of them. Against another range temp, you can slaughter them and heal yourself, fighting melee, nail them with a firearm strike, get your range and drop them before they get close.
Riflemen in pvp cause more trouble then the pesky jedi do. We always kill them first. Maybe look into better weapons, because the riflemen I run with do massive amounts of damage. Now if I can get up close on one I can tear them up, not sure on tactics for duels since they have a known start time and your pretty much stuck starting them in melee range.I personally think duels are silly, going overt is the only way to fight ![]()

hi there
i am RM/CM and i jsut traded in my 0430 carbs for 0403 pistols. (will miss the awesome KD, but i wellcome in the root - yea i know its gettgin the nerf bat)
first of all, u mentioned u were using sniper shot. only use sniper if you are group pvp and u are off the the side. use head shot.
second, when far use only rifles, dont think about your CM skills.
as soon as your target closes in, THEN paralys, state, and poisen. startel and then RUN/KITE
one think i will soon test, i do NOT know yet if this is a good tactic, is as soon as the target closes in, and you start to paralys, switch your rifle for the MCM certed reb disrupter. this will still do nice damage with head shot, and enabel you to kite far more eficiantly. u run faster with the pistol than the rifle and if the hints are corect, us RM will soon be slowed to a crawl when equiping a rifle. ![]()

well i haven't actually done this myself, but if you go into keymap, then i believe there is a "macro" tab or something, from there you can assign certain keys to the macro.

Theres a guide to assigning specials to keys in my sig.

Binding macros to a keystroke:
1) Go into options (Ctrl-O), select keymap button (used to be under misc, now is included in tabs)
2) Select the 'Custom' tab
3) Find the macro you wish to map to a key and select it
4) Click the 'Rebind' button and enter the keystroke you want to assign it to.
Yay!
hi, I've been a mr mcm for most of cu. I didn't respec away from it yesterday. I pvp just for fun but seem to do well unless its against a jedi where rifle seems to miss most shots.
against range i suggest startle shot as it often halts a lot of the other person's shots.
I usually open all fights with with paralyze, followed by action drain and speed debuff (cm skills). i used to use dots but now rarely do because it interferes with paralyze if u need it in the future.
next often thefirst thing the other does at this point isknock u down so have your knockdown recovery handy. have both a stim as well as your combat medic heals handy. note that most combat medic heals will heal your opponent if they are still targetted. accordingly, at the moment i use a macro (sub-par because it only allows use of the basic heals not the advanced versions), where i target myself heal and i can't remember if i automatically retarget the other person as part of the macro. i used to wonder why i lost duels until i noticed that i was healing my opponent and since using the macro i haven't lost against a non jedi (haven't tried a jedi since). also if u pull out a med droid and have it follow u your heals are higher.
i alternate between head shot, startle shot and sometimes if i had just been knocked down and already recovered, sniper shot. i have basic pistol root (0001) and throw that in too. i rarely use firearm strike but have on occasion.
