Well, by being combat medic, im sacraficing my pistoleer, or rifleman tree, and the skills dont look that good anyway, especialy after what ive been hearing.

also, its so hard to train novice medic skills, they take such insane amounts of mind.

so is it worth it? i could be a weapon specialist, good for PVP, or a combat medic, who cant really do anything.

some opinions of wether combat medic is worth it in general would be nice please

once they fix the various issues, CM can very well be worth it, in fact i'm almost afraid of the power hidden behind the bugs.

it is very possible to go very high on a Weapon Tree so PvP setups don't realy suffer from taking CM. with the current bugs however it is more feasable to just go Master Medic and Master Weapon and spend what's left somwhere else if you only want to go PvP and use Medic for selfhealing.

CM are going to be awesome, a person that can hold his own but also heal everyone else will be really good, but i suggest you keep rifle specialist, a combat medic will provide ranged support as well as healing, but should never be up on the front line, if your going to be a combat medic, i hope you are a rebel.

I don't know what the deal is with everyone wanting rifle -- it's a bit easier to solo with, sure, and you can do mind damage, which is good for PvP, but it will make you a less useful combat medic...or medic, in general.

Unless you plan on using a spraystick, carbines and pistols will always fire faster than you will...sometimes much, much faster. Because of the delay, you won't get your heals off as fast. Plus, if you're going to be close enough to heal, you're going to be close enough that your rifle is going to have some (or serious) negatives to hit. Then there's the whole depletion of your mind pool from healing AND from firing your weapon.

I've been using a carbine, and, even with the bugs, it's been working great. It takes action and health, but little to no mind. Which means that it regenerates pretty quickly and I can turn around (while solo) and heal myself for my action and health damage while fighting. The best part of it is that I get positive bonuses at the ranges I need to be at to effectively heal in combat without having to be on the front lines. The pistol would be the same thing, until you get your ranged healing going...

You've got plenty of points to specialize in a specific weapon AND be a combat medic, you know. My original plan was to go carabineer/combat medic, which you have just enough points for -- even if you want to master both.

As to the novice medic skills being hard to train, you're just going about it the wrong way. Go make some stimpack-a's, and whatever else you might need, and work your way up to organic chemistry 3 (it really doesn't take that long, especially since you can afford to buy your resources from running the destroy missions you need to get your combat xp and weapons xp) instead of getting artisan and surveying/mining. And pharmacology 1 or 2. Then start using your stimpack-b's on entertainers, or group and use them there. Organic chem 3 will also give you woundpack-b's, which do a lot more healing for a lot more experience. You can make, sitting in a hospital on an average night (even with three other medics on staff) about 15000-20000 medical xp in an hour on your average night, depending on the quality of your woundpacks and stimpacks. I play about 2 hours a day, if I have time, and about 12 total on the weekends (20 or so hours a week is what I average)...getting the ranged support branch will take far longer than getting the medical xp.

I have a really hard time imagining being a CM or Doc without Survey IV, heh. Maybe later after the economy settles down.

i agree..i was gonna go master CM/ master Doct pistol specialist...but man withthe way resources shift and stuff disappears..i dont think i can afford to give up survey...

you can even look for good harvester spots without novice artisan...

Now im looking master CM, Doc Wound treat IV for rez and buff, Doc crafting for making rez packs and buff packs...and then pistol specialist with artisan and survey IV

Ah, see, I find that ifyou're nice to the pure artisans who come in after being jumped by creatures hanging around their harvesters, they'll cut you a deal on resources. There's one guy on Scylla that offered 2 credits per for all the chemicals, organics and metals I wanted to carry off, plus offered first option to buy on some berries from Lok (I think it was Lok...could have been somewhere else)...just for healing a couple hundred wound points.

You can also find you friendly, neighborhood surveyors and walk around healing their action pools while they survey. They'll gladly cut you a deal, since it means they can survey for two or three times as long (or more). I'd rather be a medic on the go, especially for the combat medic side of things. I don't want to spend two days a week running around to various planets to unload the hoppers on my harvesters. It'll be enough of a pain having to maintain a house and a factory in between missions and healing.

I've already got one character who's a pure artisan on another server. I don't want this character to turn into one, too. If the market doesn't exist, I will simply have to go convince some people to become miners so that I can do things like that.

I play a combat medic to heal, but I have Rifle and Pistol specilist so I can be effective in Combat which is just as important. I also have Surv 4 and hunting 4 to be self sufficient in my own harvesting. I agree, until things settle with the economy I have no plans to ditch Rifle, Hunting, Surv 4. If I use up all my final points into CM, keep Surv 4, Hunting 4 and rifle/pistol, I can still heal VERY effectively and do nice damage, so for now this is the route I plan to take. Being strictly a healer IMO is just too boring.
