I've seen some reference to stacking poisons, but never seen any real clarification.

Also I was wondering if disease has any use in PvE?

Single Poison types do stack.

Area poisons do not stack with other area poisons, but you can stack one of them in with the single poisons.

Posions stack with diesaes as well (and a current bug allows a stacks poisons and disease to incap in PvP.)

Diseases serve not a lot of purpose in PvE. One could argue they have some usefulness by stacking in an extra bit of damage (in the form of wounds, but it still knocks down the bars by coming off the bottom) but it would probably only be worthwhile when using a very strong C disease on a very High HAM MOB.
