Thread: So Ive always wondered and now Im finally gonna ask...

The #1 issue in these forums Ive ALWAYS wanted to know is why do CM's hate their PvE life so much?

I remember as a CM giving up my poisons for PvE was the most painful part.

Reason simply being: A smart CM can hunt wisely and take things on the right way.

In PvE, with any other class, theres always a golden rule: Shoot something and its buddies are going to come after you. Hit one unit with a Rifle to bleed it, and poof him and all his buddies are right there chasing you. Run up and start swinging with your VK, and youre going to be circle stomped into submission.

However with CM I could throw an AOE poison into a group... aaand only have the one I targetted aggro. As long as I didnt fire at him, and ONLY tossed the poison, it would aggro, pause a few seconds, wait for the tick and then come storming on after me.

Now this presents alot of issues.... first of all the largest one being CM's can lure Mobs out one at a time. If youre the full distance and you lob and run, 9 times out of 10 due to the distance, LOS and aggro rules you wont excite the pack.

So now you got the one mob storming after you. If youre smart, youve got C Area and C Singles ready to go, and you lay them both on it. Being the lovely CM that you are both hit first try, usually. If youre even more prepared and focus more on the CM than on other classes for offense, you might even have B's or A's to lob at it too.

So now you got the thing ticking from anywhere around 1000-2000. Poison ticks faster than bleeds, so this is better than a combat profession so far.

The pause at the beginning before it starts running gives you time to drop at least 2 poisons. Then when you start running, its up to you if you want to take the couple second pause to chuck a few more. Usually 2 were the only ones I needed.

If youre solid support IE Doctor/CM, then chances are youre going to have to dance in PvE until its almost dead. Theres obviously alot of ways around this, like having someone group with you to tank while you heal them, or simply healing yourself while having food/spice backed up ready to go on your mind.

Then the fact the OTHERS ARE STILL POISONED and dont even care about you I think is a big issue. I dont know of any other class that can pull one mob outand put a DoT on all the others without them aggroing. Thats pretty cool, I always loved it.

I guess my point is if youre going to say "X class can do Y damage to -target- faster than I can." Id respond with "Yea, but you can do Z damage to Y target, all his friends too and only have to deal with Y." Not to mention the fact "X damage to Y is lowered by resists, whereas Z damage to Y does the exact same amount always and resistances are not a factor."

Take the super mob boss Akxva Min, for example. AR3 with crazy resists across the board. However with my trusty poisons, I can hit the witch for 660 a click for a good amount of time and not miss. Then another 450 AOE on all her Protector buddies, so when we lure her out her Protectors all tick away as well.

Now thats 1100 a click, and I hit my first 2 tries. A rifleman with a T21 or a swordsman with a big hammerare the only oneswho can do more damage per bleed, but A) they cant heal themselves like we can, B) their class doesnt have built-in Terrain Nego like we do, and the biggie is C) soon theyll only be able to put 1 bleed. Commandos will have 1 fire. However Im pretty sure CMs can still do all their poisons.

So every time I see a CM say they suck in PvE I kinda scratch my head at it. Is it because you think other classes can do more damage faster, or because you have a hard time and die? If its personal experience, then Im sure following advice could make you better. But if its in comparison, then I dont think damage should be the overall factor in deciding whats better. CM has alot going for it in PvE, if you do it right.

So this really is a valid question, I just wanna know what other CMs are having a hard time with in PvE. Soon as I hit MCM I went to the Nyax base and solo'd the whole place (Even Lord Nyax) with just marksman and rifles IV. I did a bunch of dune kimos on Lok too. I thought it was easy! So Im really wondering why its not.

And theres a few select cool guys that like to flame my posts etc so just save it, if youre not going to give me an honest answer leave me alone!

Well I don't have a problem in PvE... in fact I only use my area poisons when I aggro a group onto me by accident.

oh and I'm quite sure the new patch will stop ALL DOTs from being stacked.

i pretty much agree, but i'd just like to point out:

Master CM = 81 skillpoints left
Master Rifle + Scout 4000 + Novice medic = 114 Skill Points left.

that = a Master Rifleman who can run as fast as a master CM and heal himself. Oh and if he wants pharm 4 for stim D's, he still has 100 points left.

Also to add. CM, not dabble friendly. Other Combat and Doctorprofessions, you can dabble at will. Unlessyoumaster CM, the most effective weapon, area poison/disease is above the capability of any CM without Mastery.

It is entirely possible to experiment the CM use down for Area poison/disease down to 75 for non Mastered CM, but thedamage outputof the poison/disease is not Combat effective.

I'm not sure what the original poster was saying.... It seems he was implying that he could AoE poison and only pull a single. If I AoE posion, I get everyone gunning for me.

Yeah, I was about to say the same thing. Hit AoE hotkey, watch 5 targets appear and close in. If I poison and run, I can leave the rest in the dust and just have to face the closest but there's no way im lobbing 2 AoE's at a mob while they just stand there, I try that and I'm dead.

PvE sucked (point wise per DPS).

Now, once I had Master Pistoleer, things changed....

Now I toss AOEs just to pull like 20 targets to me... Nothing more fun the doing the "Dodge Dance" and never getting hit while your enemys drop like flys.

Back to your point: Combat Medic by itself is tactical in PvE. AOE is not your friend if you are solo or unarmored. However, I never expected to be good at PvE or PvP as a plain old Combat Medic, but it would be nice to be more effective in PvE in a solo world, but i'm not bitching...
