On the skill tree combat medics need Ranged Support IV.

Personaly I think this is a stupid waste of skill points. The combat medic is usless in a fight (aside from poisons)so they should change it up to be one of the other weapon skill trees.

I think a combat medic should be entered in with thePistol skill tree in marksmen. If you think about it modern day feild medics weapon of choise is the pistol.

This would also complement the combat medic very well. Giveing them a little more freedom to use it as a combat skill.

The should also revamp it to add in a few special attacks. Like Smuggler has a little bit of pistol in it. Combat Medic is in bad need of aCOMBAT upgrade.

I just hope I'm not alone here.

I kinda like the basic direction of your idea. We could have some unique abilities and mods, which could be stacked with the mods of pistoleer; much like, as you said, smuggler. This fits what I assumed combat medic would be like before I started to examine the skill tree and master it- a medic that would be able to survive better than doctors and your everyday medic, allowing them to live longer and heal longer.

Of course, due to the skill point system this isnt extremely workable, and would piss off non-pistoleer CM's, I imagine. Try coming up with some specific ideas, and you might get community support.

combat medic is supposed to be a supported combat profession, hence why you are getting the Ranged Support tree from marksmen. you can still master a ranged prof to go along with combat medic so i personally see no point as to why ranged support shouldn't be a requirement.

I like the idea too, but warningshot has saved my doc/cm's little butt more times than I can count. So if the Pistol line was required, I'd get ranged support anyway for that ability. But I, for one, have always found /warningshot to be very "combat medic"ish. OTOH, does one ability warrant the need of a whole line?

Pistols or Ranged Support..? I can see plenty of arguments for both. Maybe you could synthesize the ideas by providing weapon certs and more "supportive" abilities in Ranged Support. Because, by the definition of "combat medic", I think Ranged Support would be more logical; however, instead of changing the prereqs to something else, maybe you could just fix the deficiencies.

This could turn into an interesting discussion.

Actually modern day medics go with Rifles. They learned the hard way that very very few continents view medics as non-combatants and a pistol was not that great a defense when someone is popping shots at you with an AK-47.

The question is: In a world without 2000+ buffs are combat medics worth 169 skill points?

Nearly entirely for my first 6 months playing I had a combat medic friend by my side, we were victorious together and wecloned together. In the opinion of someone who's been hit by his fair share of ranged stims, I promise you that my game got a whole lot tougher when my CM left. My friends Combat Medic skills were so valuable to US as a team that instead of dropping some of CM to get a few doctor skills, he dropped his carbine skills so that I became the primary damage dealer with mine. I would say that answer there is certainly.

The followup and better question is: At what level do Doctor buffs need to be to enhancethe ability to play the game solo, while stillgiving good cause for those players togroup up with other people, while stillgiving CM's a purpose?

I haven't tested but I would guess that it's somewhere between double the stat it's raising and a max bonusof 1500. Have you gone out in a group against nightsisters recently? In any of those excursions have you had occasionto throw a number of ranged stims? Find yourself bored as a CM? Now try that excursion with your group unenhanced. You'd be in a veritable CM panic and you would likely have not brought enough ranged stims.

At fanfest one of the Devs said that Combat Medics were at the right level, but we'd like to bring other professions up to that level to balance out their power. Hence area cures and inoculations for the doctors. Again this is the case. Combat Medics are at the right level, but other abilities need to be brought down to this level this time. I know a fencer/TKA that can tank6 rancors unarmored while enhanced. THAT is the problem with Combat Medics.
