Thread: Can someone give me a good explanation for potency?

...and tell me why it's lumped in with medicine use for experimentation? I just now realized (after crafting countless poisons/diseases) that potency is raised when medicine use drops.

More importantly though, what exactly does potency measure? Is it the number that is crunched when the system decides if the poison gets applied to the target or not? Or is it a measure of the damage is deals or the duration of the poison overall? Or is it a combination of the three?

Or should I quit rambling so someone can answer the question?

Can't tell you why when experimentation goes down the potency goes up, but I can tell you through experimenting differently on poison packs and then trying them out on the field and with co-operative friends, I have found higher potency decreases your targets chance of resisting (I've found 85 is pretty much good enough for anything, very few resists), and it has also effected the duration for which my poison sticks.

yes, potency determines the chance that it will be resisted by the target. Generally if its over 80, you will have very few resists. Not sure how the formula works on that one yet.

Thanks for the replies!

I too did a little testing and at 46 potency I got barely half of my attacks to stick. Haven't yet tried the one I made with 84 potency but if what you guys are saying holds for mine, there will be a big difference.

I have found that Bols on Endor resist quite a bit at 86 potency. I think PvP is different since I have only ever had 1 disease resisted at 90+ potency. I guess it depends on your intended use for the poison since mid 80's seems fine for PvP. I have been experimenting all mine to 90+ but I think I may make a separate set of mid 80 potency for PvP use. An extra few damage points would be nice to have since it is always a close call with well equipped BHs.
