Why am I forced to take a ranged weapon as a combat medic? What if I wanted to be a melee?

Don't you think they should remove the Ranged Marksmanfromthe tree? It's impossible to be a Pikeman/Combat Medic right now.

Uh... a combat medic is built around being able to do things at range, so it only makes sense that the secondary requirement is range support.

If you really wanted to, you could still get pikeman, its not impossible, its just that you are negating half of the good part of being a CM if you go for a melee fighter.

Because you are tossing ranged weapons in a grenade like form and have "ranged" stims. There's the connection.

Removing the Ranged Combat Support line would be a bad thing because it is one thing besides our name that legitamizes us as a Combat class (note I said one thing not only thing) .Therefore when changes, fixes, or nerfs to the combat environment take place, we should have a stronger voice than a profession who is "merely" support.

Well Actually you can be a Combat Medic/Pikeman you just cant master both

I have no problem with the ranged skill requirement because we do use ranged weapons (poisons/disease) so some prerequisite in that area makes sense.

If you are going to be up in the lines fighting it would probably make more sense to be a doctor, who has to be closer to heal anyway.

Just myopinions,

we are a ranged class

being 4m away from your target kinda negates the purpose of being able to throw a poison from 45m away....

Here's my side of the coin...

Being a Melee, I can't attack people from a range.

Why can't I have the option of throwing poison? In fact, throwing poison makes more sense for someone who CAN'T shoot a gun. It's the onlyranged weapon I'd have.

What about healing my friends who ARE ranged? It doesn't matter where the mob is, I am still in a different place than everyone else.

Melee have fewer numbers then everyone else, so when I try to heal my party, usually they are 40m behind me.

See my point?

So can I get an opinion for someone who is working up to be a CM what ranged weapon I should take then? Be it that I have used mostly pistol's in all my other characters, but rifles take mind which is bad if you are a healer, and carbines just incap you, So in essence what is left? I have just been working up fencer and swordsman to make combat xp since I do not know which combat class to stride for. Seems pretty limited to me honestly, since I did want to be melee, shame.

Yes, those are all RANGED skills, for which it makes sense that you would need RANGED weapon support.

People keep complaining that they want every class to be able to do everything. BH's want first aid, medics want survey, CM's wanted, and got, terrain negotiation, etc, etc,....

there comes a point when you have to just accept that you WILL NOT be able to get everything you want without some kind of compromise. In this case, if you want to go CM, you WILL HAVE to take the ranged support tree. Its extremely doubtfull that the devs are going to change that any time soon.....

Grifta

I personally think pistol is the best weapon for CM's

it doesnt use mind, and it has some very good specials that target the health pool, which aloong with health poisons, works pretty good.

I am talking about a weapon choice, not a skill.

Scouts don't need that skill to THROW a trap.

Nobody needs that skill to THROW a grenade.

I am talking about Throwing stims. A Combat medic should be able to choose his weapon. Mine is a Pike.

Keto,

It sounds to me like you are more interested in being a Pikeman that can heal and poison at distance, than a Combat Medic who can fight hand to hand.

My suggestion would be toMaster Pikeman and work up Combat Medic as far as possible. Maybe leave out the crafting line and buy your meds and poisons. In a larger group you would probably not be the main healer, but in PvP with the Master Pikeman tag over hour head, you might be able to get in close enough to lay down an area effect poison before anyone even noticed you. It could be a fun combo.

Good luck,

Rifles aren't too bad if you stick with a DLT20a.If you have maxed out focus and willpower, you can basically spam headshot2, particularly if you are a zabrak. You can't spam specials with a laser rifle or T-21 (though these are nice for bleeding, then switch to the DLT for the rest of it).
