Thread: Anyone know anything about a TEF exploit with CM?

The strangest thing happened to me tonight. I was healing members of my faction when an enemy combat medic came into town covert. Somehow he got into a fight with an overt and was then deathblown... but after that he was able to poison that overt without gaining a TEF (and thus any means of retaliation). He then went on to poison every person in the hospital. Any member of the faction was targettable, regardless of grouping, covert/overt status, TEF, or anything we've been able to track down.

No one was able to attack the offending player, even after they had been deathblown.

If anyone has any ideas on this, please post or get back to me? I'm all for getting our profession fixed, but in a fair and balanced way that promotes good gaming, not good exploiting.

Thanks in advance.

yes poison doesnt set off a retailation TEF. So if u are killed, you have the ability to counterattack the player that killed you. Usually you do this with a weapon and the defending player can attack. But if you do it with a poison, the defending player can do nothing...

definately should be bugged...

with diseases, the potential for CMs to abuse this in orderr to grieve people is very high...

I know this plea will fall on deaf ears to the type of people who would actually use this exploit, but i beg you please do not do this. If you do our poisons will never be fixed because anytime an attempt is made to fix the poisons to be more powerful, otehr classes will screw nerf and bring this example up...

so I beg you please do not abuse this exploit all we need to people thinking dots are more powerful then they really are...

Whoops, guess I'm guilty for this one. I always thought people just couldn't find me hiding inside buildings and across city blocks...the disease idea is pretty nasty too

has the dev's responded and said this was an exploit? How can we determine ourselves what is "working as intended " and what's an exploit?

Well obviously being able to attack and being immune to any sort of PvP retaliation is an exploit

the poison/disease not starting combat is a known bug (reportet back in beta)

the TEF on DB is a dokumented PvP bug, dunno if they will ever change this, we never got a response from Holo on this issue.

so you don't have 1 exploit there but a chain of circumstances involving 2 bugs:

  • someone get's DB'ed and the DBer has a TEF

  • the DBer enters a hospital and gets healed, passing his TEF over to the person healing him in addition to the TEF for healing an overt (that's 2 different flags)

  • the DB'ed comes back, diseases/poisons his DB'er and is able to poison/disease the person that healed the DB'er as well

  • every other person around that traded/healed with either of you also got the TEF passed over to him

note that this is not consitent.. sometimes poison/disease will initiate attack, sometimes it won't.

Mycroft and Elenora,

Thank you both for shedding some light on this issue. It pains me to think that I become some sort of leper once I cure a poison or disease, because anyone I heal or trade with instantly becomes a target for this sort of attack without hope of retaliation. However this knowledge does suggest several methods for curtailing this abuse, and I'll go now to the Doctor forum and relate this information.

Wait.... if I'm following you guys right, this could be horrible.

What if the covert combat medic grouped with one or two overts? The overts go and get attacked, while the combat medic can poison and disease without ever "attacking" anyone or gaining TEF. As long as they don't heal their other party members (or trade with a known faction member), they could slaughter everyone attacking without any fear.

That's using a bug to exploit the system, in my opinion. Good god.

If you are covert and group with an overt you will get a TEF once the overts get attacked.

The only time this is an issue is if a CM not grouped uses poison or disease without any other form of attack.

That hasn't been my experience, Mura. I've been sitting in a tavern, watching the overts in my group go under to overwhelming forces, and have not been attacked. I normally have to lead the recovery efforts so if there's nothing I can immediately do I hold off, but I've got reason to believe they would have killed me if they have any chance. I'm not very well liked these days.

actually u dont get a TEF if an overt get attacked in your grp...but u do get the option to attack the attacker...by attacking the attacker you should get a tef and will if you use a weapon but not if you use a poison....
