Combat Medic Archive
Thread: I have started a new character and am interested in CM. Why should I choose it over Doctor?
If all you want to do is heal then the ranged stims help in a lot of (not all) fights. Take enough doctor for rez though. That will help you the most.
Skiz, right now its a hard call to make. Doctors IMO right now are better because our area heals and poisons/diseases are broken. Its nice to be able to heal from 1 location and not move much while fighting, thats the bonus of ranged CM's get, but not what I consider a requirement for being an effective healer in a group. Doctors can revive...great skill to have. They also get buffs for stats which are really nice.
However, I am of the opinion that when we are finally fixed and everythings said and done, there will be room in groups for Doc's and CM's, neither will necessarily be better then the other, but both will have important roles to play. Keep in mind, whichever u choose, you can always reverse it and go the other way if u decide to later.
check out the numerous posts here and on the other threads about the benefits of CM over doctor...there have been a lot of good discussions on it..
Thank you, all good replies.
Other than the specifics of the profession, what makes you tick? What are you favorite things about CM aside from ranged healing?
my favorite thing about CM...i get to whine about CM and no one can really argue...lol there no where to go from here but up...CM can only get better
as opposed to BH, pistoleer, CH and smugglers that will always be dodging the nerf bat...
hehehehe
FIX MY AOE!!!!!
I'm about to get to Master Doc over the weekend and considering working on the Combat Medic skills line.
Doctors are definitely great healers and wound repairers- and the buffs they can dish out are also great too. The revive ability will always get them into groups. Now this is all great in PvE.
What I think will be interesting is how the ranged healing could be used strategically in PvP. At the moment, a Doctor has to be in the thick of the action to be able to heal. A CM could stear clear of the mayhem and keep people alive - and also deal some damage. I would also add that the doctor healing animation is so obvious people are going to target him first everytime in PvP - especially because he has to be in the thick of the action to add value.
I'll report back next week once I've started playing as a combat medic.
CM will own in Pvp because one the damage reduction are in wecan basically sit behind a wall and toss ranged heals because of the no LOS requirement...
trust me when damage reduction is put in healers will have bull's eyes on their foreheads and trust me u see a doc run out to stim and he's gotta take a ton of fire...
Once AOE is in, it will make us even more effective in pvp

Besides the nifty and keen titles over my head?
I like the idea of poisons/diseases. I'm waiting to see them improved. They are the main reason I took this profession.
And yes, I do love the ranged healing. Personally, I don't like to run around like a chicken with my head cut off to get in range to heal someone with a stim. I like to stand in one spot when in a team and just pop off blue ball after blue ball. I can't wait until AoE stuff works. Sparkly lights o' healing!
the really beauty of ranged heals isnt the range tho...its the non LOS...
With the coming PvP changes, rifleman and mind damage will be very powerful...one wayto make sure ur not snipered is to not go out in the open...
Elenora's LOS(line of sight) point is very valid. If you ever play on a PvsE battlefield for example, or PvsP in a city, CM's can fire off heals at group members over walls, buildings, etc. A doctor is very limited here, they need to stay close to heal people. This allows CM's to stay out of range of fire fights and heal out of sight. In PvsE battlefields, you have to destroy generators surrounded by walls. My group members are all over the place and I can keep them alive because walls dont stop my heals. If one of them is 2 walls over, I can heal them, a Doctor would have to go find them and get closer.
The other point I like about CM's are the poisons and diseases. These will IMO be alot of fun when fixed, especially in PvsP. Even if we die, knowing u landed a hard disease dot on someone sending them to the hospital will leave a smile on my face ![]()
dont you have to be a master Doc for that?
