Thread: Starting as a Medic or Marksman?
After seeing how awesome Combat Medics are I decided I want to start one myself. What do you guys recommend starting as? What is more important in your eyes, holding your own in combat or being able to take hits and healup fast using your medic skills? I mainly building this character for PvP and I want to get off on the right foot stat wise. I know I can migrate but it's really a pain.
My main is a MasterArchitect so I am pretty much clueless to the Medic/Combat process and gameplay.
Thanks alot for any advice you have!
I started as an artisan. I spend my starting credits to train marksman and medic.
A LOT of medic is based around artisan, unfortunately. If you're starting your medic to get away from the farming and grinding of architect, well, you picked the wrong class.
I maxed out my Mind/Focus/Willpower stats, and used the rest of my points to even out my Health and Action pools. You know you can change stats in the tutorial instantly right?
Yea, I figured there would be some griding involved ![]()
I just was curious as starting this character as a PvP'er what do you guys see as the most vital part of having a PvP combat medic? As the name of the class implies, it's a mixture of both, with certain stats being essential to the combat part and medic part.
What do you suggest I move points to for medic? As well as for marksman.
BTW I had forgotten you could migrate stats in tutorial, I haven't created a character in a long time ![]()
Thanks for your response!
I'm sorry to tell you this, but the most vital thing about a PvP combat medic is getting to master.
Most CMs agree that poisons are worthless until you get to Cs. You need master CM support to use single target Cs, and master CM to use area Cs.
I suggest being a Zabrak, with maxed mind/focus/willpower, with the rest of the points evened between health and action. The medic stats are far more important than the marksman stats... you can always stim yourself, and eventually you'll get area stims anyway (which'll heal yourself while you heal your target).
There is no reason to actually start as a marksman - you get the CDEF pistol regardless of profession. Start as a Medic and immediately train yourself in Artisan (for survey and sample) and Marksman. When you have the cash, train yourself in all of the novice skills (you can always surrender brawler later).
Starting as a medic gives you some starting equipment (Stims and maybe a crafting tool?) which Marksman doesn't get. You might have to buy a generic crafting tool off of the bazaar.
Peanut, have you tested A and B versions made by a Master? i suppose the issue is not in the A and B versions but in the crafting ,)
I disagree. I started off as a marksman in hope of becoming a rifleman/commando. I grew tired of waiting for commando to be fixed so I dropped it and took up CM. I found I had an easy time getting though medic as I could make good credits with my Sniper skills to buy supplies.
I say go Marksman
id suggest starting as an artisan so you have 2 survey tools start surveying for crafting resources and build/buy yourself a fooc/chem crafting tool then buy both medic and marksmen when working on medic xp your best source is in a group where your continually using stims on people and their pets this also gives you combat xp as well now for healing people your grouped wiht during combat
now once you hit combat medic the fun really begins you have a short range stims that dont heal for much and a very slow reuse timer your better off using non ranged stims untill you hit master IMHO
once you hit master you may want to take the doc crafting line otherwise your stuck with a whopping 5 experimentation on all of your subcomponents and maybe wound treatment 4 for res
This is precisely what I did.
I HATED Architect for the resource requirements and monotony and grinding.
However, actually being a medic is just worth it enough for me to be suffering through the crafting part.
