Thread: Combat Medic / Doctor Combo?

I everyone, I posted something almost 3 months ago about becoming a Doctor. Well, I'm now a Master Doctor and I want to move on to a good fighting profession. I currently have Novice Carbineer but I was wondering how powerful a Combat Medic/Doctor combination would be? I really want to make a character with all medic based skills because I think that would be kind of cool, but I don't want to be really weak either. I run a guild and need to be able to lead hard hunts and other events so I need something that is going to help me fight fairly powerful things. Please let me know, thanks.

Well as a MD / MCM

You will be "weak". You will have zero combat skills. And you really won't be able to do much of anything unless your in a guild (or group) that does stuff without soloing.

MD / CM is an awesome combo for the ultimate healer...but it has it's downsides. You can't hunt by yourself, you can't harvest, I mean you really can't do anything without a support (combat) person with you.

For PVP this is a great combo if your with a crew. But again, you will die in 2 seconds if your out and about on your own. So it really depends on what you want.

Me, I couldn't do both with the same character. I need to kill stuff...but some people enjoy it, and it really is a good combo assuming you have a group.

Oh, i'm really dissapointed to hear that. I was told I would have awesome PvP skills as long as I had Carbinees 4 to finish the job...

i was MCM/MD, i had ub3r PvP skills, no one could beat me, but take into consideration i spent millions on rifle speed and accuracy tapes, along with a krayted Jawa, with rifles 4 and millions invested in weapons, armor, and attachments, you will be the best in your galaxy.

As someone who plays the template every day, I have to disagree with My_T. I'm much weaker than an elite combatant in PVE, no question, but I can still take on almost any mob, I just need more time to kill them. It's not a good solo PVE template, butin group PVE I'm everyone's favorite group member. As for PVP, if you are well prepared you can do much more than hold your own. In the last guild war I was in, I was the last person in my guild left unbeaten (and it wasn't for lack of fighting). The other guild got a little sick of losing to me, so when we held a battle-royale even t to end the war, they all ganked me. I do mean ALL of them. They didn't even worry about the rest of my guild until I was dead. All that said, it's not a soloing template and not the greatest of combat templates. When it comes to keeping a group alive though, there's none better.

Alright, thanks for your input. The main thing i'm going to use it for is mass guild hunts against computer enemies so I need to know if this will be good for it. Otherwise i'll work on Master Carbineer but I would much rather have a MD/MCM combo because then my character can have an entire medical theme! Please let me know if CM will be okay for what I want. So far it seems like a good thing, sort of...

For group PVE it's great. Just don't get caught up in trying to be a damage dealer. Let the rest of the group do that while you worry about keeping them alive.

For a mass guild hunt, you probably would be more effective as a CM/carbineer. You still get the thrill of hunting, and keeping your group alive, but you also land massive damage with your weapon. Just keep off the specials when you are healing a lot. I would guess you have a few doc/melee'ers that can buff before and during the hunt, and you will be able to be self-sufficient in the event you ever do want to go out and hunt on your own.

Another option would be to dabble in squad leader and master CM. This would let you heal states (dizzy, intimidate, stun), give your group nearly unlimited burst runs, and add to their melee and ranged defense. Looking at a character builder you could master CM and do 1043 Squad leader. This would also lend credence to your being their "leader" as you get to send"system message" to your group.

I know this doesn't address the "medical theme" but it would definitely make you more unique and perhaps more effective. Anyway you go it will probably be fun.

I didn't mean to say that it was a bad combo....I just meant that from how his first post was (Not wanting to be weak) it would be a bad combo for him. CM / Doc is by far the best combo *IF* you have a group, and want to be a healer. Sure you might be able to solo stuff and do well in PVP, but realistically, it's not your role. You don't do any real damage other than DOT's. CM / Doc is the most uber Support position you can be.

As someone already said, you have to have money to be anything more then support, however you will still be a DOT dealer. If you have nothing to back that up, your toast the second a ranged person see's what your doing. CM's do more damage in PVP then perhaps any other profession because DOT's aren't restricted to the PVP Reduction.

But you still have no midigation, you have pretty much no defenses, and if you get caught off guard by a Melee guy you take 2X damage just because your a ranged profession.

I use MCM, Doc 2000, Rifles 4344 it works out rather well. Being able to heal state effects is primo. It works out well for pve, and pretty decent for pvp. The main thing I've noticed is that once you start tossing poisons/disease, you become the biggest target on the field. Certainly can't fault the enemy for that

You only make money if your can support your self. By purchasing buffs you don't make as much money as you would getting stuff yourself.

Infact *most* Doctors aren't in it for the money; atleast I know I'm now. I'm a Doctor because I love the profession. I love CM also, I just *hate* ranged professions. Being a Doctor lets me be a Melee Person, so I can get my hands dirty and heal.

I did the trifecta of healing as i like to call it and combat wise your not too good. But like you said your only in for healing aspects for when your wit ha group then yah its good for that. What im working on right now is master carbineer and master combat medic.

I always thought being a CM was alot more fun then being a doc... Unless you want to make money.

Yea my alt is a master doctor master combat medic and its a lot of fun, for an alt character. I mean, I can poison mobs to no end then run away for a bit and come back and pick them off with my pre nerf republic blaster but its really not worth it most the time.

However I found that I have more fun playing my alt on raids then I do playing my main character who is master pistoleer, bh pistols, novice commando and smuggler dirty fighting.

All up to your play style I guess
