Thread: Paralyze: Root, Mez, or broken?

Was thinking about making a new toon on a diff server, but before I do so, I wanted to have something cleared up.

+root+ means you can't move, but you can still attack and heal, and the state remains after damage taken

+mez+ (I think that's the name of the state) prevents movement, heals, and attacks, but breaks on damage

Now I had heard before that when the CU first came out, paralyze was broke and prevented all action like a mez, but didn't break on damage. Then I heard later that as a temporary fix, all attacks that were supposed to mez but were broke, were just converted to root attacks for the time being.

So does anyone know if paralyze roots you, or does it stop all actions and stick after damage, or does it work like it's supposed to and stop actions but breaks on damage?

and you might want to take a look at the new patch notes on test center

Daze effects now prevent all forms of healing and buffing

This probably came about due to smugglers getting concussion shot, but would like to think the change came about as something I said (hey I'm not concieted in the least! )

Daze? What attack does this and what profession has it? Does it break on damage?

Or is this just the proper term for the effect paralyze inflicts?

A mesmerize is a root + daze effect. The root prevents the enemy from moving. The daze prevents him from attacking, buffing, healing or taking any other combat-related action. Daze is removed if damage occurs (and any other effects of the same ability also get removed).

Some abilities, like the smuggler's Panic Shot after Publish 19, will just daze, others like Concussion Shot (and I assume Paralyze already works like this, haven't acquired it yet) root and daze.

One last question...

Say I paralyze someone. They've been mez'd which means they've been rooted and dazed, right? So if I attack my target again the daze breaks, but does the root break as well? Or do both break since they're from the same attack?

They both break. It is a root+daze. Not a root and a daze. They are the same entity and if you break one, they both will break. Compare that to say hitting someone with startleshot(daze) and stopping shot(root), if they take damage the startleshot will break, but the stopping shot's root still stays, because it is a different attack.

Does that make sense?

Think of it as:

Root - you can't move

Daze - You can't attack, this effect will break on damage

Mez - You can't move or attack, this effect will break on damage

Mez is not "Daze+Root" although it does seem like a simple way to state it, it causes confusion. It's it's own effect, and on damage the mez will break .

First, thank you all for taking the time to explain this to me, I understand now and really appreciate it.

Secondly, I have a semi-related question (sorry, I know I said before would be the last). But is the Pistoleer attack "Disarming shot" a daze? I've read the description and it said it was supposed to stop a target from attacking back. However, I was always curious why it never seemed to last longer than a single combat round. Is that because it's a daze and would break as soon as my next attack landed?

That certainly would make a lot of sense... so after Pub 19 (and daze is fixed)if I hit someone with disarming shot, will they not be able to heal or attack as long as I don't attack them back?

This is probably a better question for the pistoleer boards, but if anyone knows I'd appreciate it.

Pulled from pistoleer forum:

Advanced Disarming Shot: Prevent target from attacking for 5 seconds, breaks on damage.

Yes, it has a short Daze effect on it.
