Thread: Oh no! Concussion Shot breaks on damage!!! It's now useless!!!

I'm not making fun of the smugglers (I troll the dev tracker), but does everybody remember when we had to deal with this with our /paralyze attack? It was tough for us to swallow, but we got over it. To any smuggler that wanders through here...We know your pain! It'll be an adjustment, but everything is going to be allright!


To be honest, their version is better than our /paralyze since they can apply it at a greater distance and has a longer duration (I believe). However, they have a change to miss where ours always sticks.


I'm tempted to try and gain concussion shot so I can put more states on before having to reapply!


I post this here because I'm not in the mood to be completely flamed in the smugglers forum!

Actually most smugglers know that it was intended to break on damage, but a select few, mostly respecer's got smuggler because it was a 40 second root. They beleived it to be working fine, so I bet you could have posted this in the smuggler forum, they're good people...well most are anyway.

Indeed. If anyone ever bothered to actually read the skill description for the smuggler root. It specifically states. And allways HAS since it came in with CU that it breaks the moment you attack. EXACTLY like paralyze. And yes. It does indeed last alot longer at master smuggler level (Actually if I recall actually 4000 smug) than a MCM paralyze. The main difference is that unlike paralyze root doesnt stop your target from attacking. Which by it's description if i recall it's supposed to. Way I understod how it was -supposed- to be was exactly like a paralyze attack. But only ranged.


It does kinda suck that it's being changed from a root. It was quite nice. But meh. it just needs to be handled differently now is all.

Don't bust on the Smugglers. Like someone said above, very few are b*tching about this change, and the ones who are truly misunderstand what is going to happen.


Perhaps a few think that Concussion Shot will stay a root, but break on damage. If this is what would happen, then yes, they would have reason to complain.


Given the rumors that fly around about nerfs and the untruths that get spread due to heresay, it is understandable that a few smugglers are a little pissed off. Don't downplay smugglers dude.

I have personally made one of those rants.


All anger toward your post aside, a dev did say at Fan Fest that they were going to make roots and snares break on damage. A change like that would have completely neutered those specials into unusefulness.


My rant on the subject had nothing to do with misunderstanding the Concussion Shot change to a mez that breaks on damage, which is acceptable. I even think adding a target-side timer to prevent the spamming of Concussion Shot is needed, but when I see a dev say that they are going to nerf the other roots and snares in the game, my nerf-alarm starts going off.

well the main reason why i say that is because most of the posts i have seen with that in them... was based off of second hand information



but seriously, if the turn root into break on damge, it becomes a mez that can fight back, don't make any sence...... won't happen i don't think....


and have the put the immunity timer on root yet?


which is what I thought they were going to do to stop chain root....


so if my post angered you I apologize, as i havn't read any of your rant's on that subject

Thanks for being civil. I heard from a few VERY reliable sources that the devs said they were considering making roots break on damage. I am 99% certain that they said this.


Now, there is an immunity timer on Stopping Shot, which is the pistoleer root. I fully support that. That alone solves the problem with chain rooting. If you think about it, if they were to make Stopping Shot break on damage, then it would ONLY be useful for escape maneuvers, and it would not have any use DURING fights as crowd control. Pistoleers are supposed to be a 4 outta 5 in crowd control, and if their root is not actually useful during combat, then they will not be able to fill a useful role in crowd control other than the nice skills they have in being able to function as attack control.


I am only going to say this once more, but I fully support the smugglers' concussion shot being broken on damage when it gets turned into a mez attack.


Overall, even talking about keeping the devs from nerfing roots and snares to break on damage confuses the hell out of most readers. Hell, the Pistoleer correspondent and a few of his cronies flamed the hell out of me for trying to preserve roots. Mind you, I was quite clear to them that I supported the target-side timer that prevents chain rooting, yet they flamed me to hell and back as someone who was tooooo dependent on roots, which I am not.


Hell, as soon as this mez change goes through, I won't even have a rooting shot. I am just trying to preserve the flavor and usefulness of all professions that have roots and snares: Jedi, CM's, Pistoleers, Carbineers, Smugglers, etc...

so the immunity timer has already been put in place on stopping shot.... and the cooldown timer hasn't been changed... punks...



but yea, smug's won't have a root anymore.... but still isn't concusion like a 30 second mez then? with like a 6 sec cooldown? kinda wrong


but seriously, if the dev's do implement a break on dmg, snares and root's are useless....



come to think of it... why is this topic in the CM forum?

Yea, but in Publish 20 or 21, Blixtev said the devs will put in a target-side timer to prevent people from being chain-concussioned.


This is in the CM forum because the original poster decided to make a jab at smugglers. He even said he'd post it in the smuggler forum, but didn't want to get jumped or something like that.

Yeah...sorry! It was an off-topic post. I don't mean to jab at smugglers either. My in game buddy is a master smuggler and he's right in line with most of the smugglers who knew the skill would be fixed and is fine with it...we just had a bunch other's in our guild get all upset because they all saw how effective concussion shot was against someone like necrosis and all respec'd!! Their complaints just reminded me of a lot of the same things people were saying when they fixed /paralyze.
