Thread: Give Master Combat Medics a limited Mind heal ability
Elenora,
As you know, I respect your opinions greatly on doctor/combat medic/medic matters. However, while it might be laughable in other games to allow medics to continuously heal, those other games do not create a situation where a character can die becuase they've run out of "mana" or the equivalent.
Additionally all other mmorpg games do not limit their healing classes from healing a "vital" pool that is determinative in keeping a player alive.
While personally I would prefer a change to not allowing players to target the mind pool, this is never going to happen. So as long as players can target the mind pool, I want to have the ability to do my job, keep the group alive. This is the only job I have, and this is the only job I want. With the current system, I can spend 246 ability points on medic skills and prerequisites and still be unable to fulfill my role.
This is extremely discouraging, and underlines the fact that in SWG the key is not to outlast, but instead is not to be hit. Spamming knockdown is ultimately the most effective battle tactic in the game.

I am a Pistoleer, you can heal my damage on the battlefield. You can heal a Carbineer's damage on the battlefield. There should be something to heal a Rifleman's damage on the battlefield. Who? I could careless! But think of it this way. If everyone went Rifles, then there would be no reason for a Medic,Combat Medic or Doctor.
I never thought I'd see the day.
See you in the med center Gkarn.
You're so full of yourself, Where do you think CH's get their rancors and other high HAM pets from. All the advanced planets.
The best stimpaks require having harvesters on 6 planets, including Dantooine and Talus. That's not counting Area paks, Woundpaks or Poisin/Diseases. So don't give me that BS about how much you worked for anything. My guild has a couple of Master CHs and a lot of novice ones, including the first one on the server. They all agree on it being overpowered, hell they both got to Master within a day. It's the easiest class to master and it's the most overpowered one in the game.

Oh i complete agree with u on this point...but the point is not that mind healing is needed or not..but why should mind healing be put in the medic line at all...
put it in another class is what im saying..i love CM and the medic line but even i would admit that mind healing in our line would just be overpowering... no reason we should have endless power/mana...say giving it to a entertainer who heals mind by sacrificing action as they do in the cantina would make more sense..
hence a medic and a entertainer working together to cover each classes weakness/sacrifice is class dependance...CMs healing each other mind damage is just exploits...
Action Damage: Healed by Medic
Health Wound: Healed by Medic
Health Damage: Healed by Medic
Mind Wound: Healed by Entertainer
Mind Damage: Healed by ???
I think it's pretty obvious that Entertainer should get it, but not Combat Medic (or any medic for that matter).
"Entertainers are getting bored... using Macros, half of them that started at the release date are now masters, and what's the point of a Master Musician (or dancer, etc.) messing around in a cantina? They don't get xp anymore, so why do it? It's because people get mind wounds (and BF) and need them to perform their entertainments. If we could heal mind wounds, there would be virtually no one in the cantinas and all the ppl playing entertainers would drop their subscriptions. Anyone here think SOE is really going to throw away that revenue just so we can do brain surgery in the field?"
The point of the entertainer class was to appeal to the social aspect of the game. Course over 60% of the people in this game are 13 year old boys who just want to kill and be ubber. The entrainer was created so one can sit and chat away with their fellows. Doesn't seem to quite work that way though :/
fact is you cant give mind heal to a class that uses mind to heal...even if u link it to H and A because we can heal H and A...you cant make a class that self sufficient...thats like saying that entertainers should be able to heal their own Action bars...
fact is that mind damage is needed just not in the medic class...it defeats the purpose of using mind to heal...
if you dont give it to entertainers you give it to another class simple...
chain healing is stupid and unbalancing...if done right no one would ever die!
Hi, chiming in to disagree with Elenora who usually posts stuff I agree with. Mind healing is no way overpowering. CM is not that useful right now, Mind heal is the perfect fit. A scaling mind heal that at it's highest is a 1-1 mind transfer in the CM line. It isn't overpowering, and mind damage will still be by far the best pool to hit. If a player is getting hammered in the mind, they are at best getting the benefit of adding the CM's mind to their own. Considering you can heal, I dunno, fifty or more times the mind cost to Health and Action, this is hardly a heal CMs would be eager to give. This does absolutely nothing for 'self-sufficiency', this wouldn't benefit if applied to self, so there is still no reason for a soloist to pursue combat medicine, a purely grouping class.
People saying this interfers with chefs and entertainers are completely off. They aren't helping you in combat, and having CMs heal mind makes chef mind food no less valuable, especially to CMs themselves.
This and giving CMs their due crafting points like doctors get would, IMHO, turn a sidelined class into a very viable one, and give reason for there to be both CMs and Doctors, as well as the best healers who pursue both at the expense of combat.
Thanks for the thread, couldn't agree more, this I think would provide a major game improvement. The most frustrating thing about being a medic is people going down on mind, and it has nothing to do with 'groups over estimating themselves' or melee classes not putting enough points into their minds.
Thanks
Shad
No it's not that's why CH can not heal mind bar.
They can heal their PETS, but in case you did not know they can heal all HAM on their pets right now including mind (feed and play) so it's not a good comparison.
Also they will need those stimpacks from another profession - BE.
I would compare healing of pets with repairing armor, not with healing other players, because pets are their weapons.
I would have to disagree with the 1:1 mind heal being very effective...
In PvE, for the most part, in a fight where mind incap has become a problem, most likely, you will be be healing a lot and not not have full mind...
now if some1 in ur grp gets mind incaped, what you are asking for is a heal that basically tranfers ur mind to the mind pool of the patient...
in order for this heal to be even close to effective u will have to have dumped a major portion of your mind into the heal, which then leaves you effective for healing the other people still alive and fighting...in fact you are probably doing more harm than good since u are healing him probably so little mind that he will get mind incapped on the very next mind heal. A good example of this would be, would u wake up a incapped player with anything less than 50% HAM...if u used a stim A to wake up a guy, you just might find out that the guy u just woke up took a hit that incapped him again...
In PvP, mind healing is almost becoming a moot issue....people who are attacking mind pools are doing it with attacks that are so powerful that its basically a 1 hit situation...
eyeshot can hit for upwards of 700-800 mind damage a hit with the speed of a pistol...that pistol will definately hit faster than u can apply a mind heal on a target...
so the issue isnt mind healing..its actually where is the game going with mind damage
