I think you're confused a bit StarNick being the commando corro. When they said there was alot of "flames" on the CM forums they didn't meanthey came from a plasma flame thrower.

I think this is my first time really visiting the Combat Medic forum (at least posting here, per a certain request). Generally I keep an eye on: Valcyn, Chilastra, Weaponsmith, Armoursmith, Corro forums, and of course the Commando forums because I have some association whether it be forum or ingame to all of these. Now with armoursmiths that isn't true except for their corro, Caile, who is part of a small group of correspondents that I've been friends with before our rise to the correspondency (the other would be Esharra, the dancer corro, who I've known for 1.5-2 years online now). Coincidence that we're all corro's? Maybe 
Anyways...I'm curious now where PsionicHawk is...I don't think I've seen him post in a while.

He's talking about your Flamethrower. It's a weapon certed in the Incendiary tree, and you get an upgraded version (Plasma Flame Thrower) at master. It's probably one of the best Commando weapons.
