I'm in a screwed up time zone (CET)and I doubt my S.O would appreciate me spending more time with this game, but I would like to post a vote of confidence for Gnuut, Griggs and Brainplay. (Well, Pahdbacca as well of course, but he allready got a slot )

But you got to promise to leak me some low and dirty on the revamp, especially if any of you try out Carbineer.

Carbicide: "The victimless crime!"
BTW Yes it is true, I've tested it myself, poison only ticks once every TEN seconds!

What's wrong with being a COMBAT MEDIC?

We have to tie up enough points in becoming a MCM anyway... we should be able to be effective in both areas.

Nerf the buffs, nerf the armor and let us compete.

Nothing at all. If someone answers that way instead of the other two choices, it gives me a bit more insight into them.

Sorta lost that now though...

on that note.. vortexala... any chance you could just fire off simple 'received' reply to all submissions so we know you got it?

thanks

Will do

Thanks Texxie. (and gratuitous bump for those of you who skip the 'stickies' 8)

So why the hell are they always getting themselves into flame wars??

sniped from the Doc forums, thought it would be helpful

What the heck is that?

The combat balance sandbox is a closed server where the correspondents and the devs will be testing the changes to the combat balance. It will be a very very closed beta. At this time I do not have the timeframe, but my best guess is approximately 1-2 months from now.

What does that have to do with me?

Well, TH wrote: "we are also going to add the correspondents Top 5 picks from each profession to also come on to the sandbox server and take part in the testing."So I get to pick 5 of you to help us test the combat balance changes.

What can I expect?

First, let me dispel any myths. This is not a perk, this is a job. You have to take direction, and spend a lot of time doing boring "grunt work". It's not glamourous. You have to be dedicated and committed. Expect to spend a lot of time repetatively testing certain weapon combinations, in either PvP or PvE, and to spend even more time giving feedback and discussing the changes. Expect it to take up the majority of your allotted gaming time, and to take priority over logging in to your regular server. I am trying to get more specific details about what exactly is expected from testers.

Am I a good candidate?

At this point, I don't have the exact criteria that the devs want, but we should get the ball rolling on who is interested so in case I'm called upon to make a quick decision, I have a list of people who are interested, and who would do a good job. So before you apply, ask yourself the following:

Do I have the time to test this?

This may be harsh, but because this is a small selected group, we need testers who will dependably logon every day. If you can't do that, you need to leave the spot open for someone who can. The sandbox will take priority over your normal gaming, including restocking vendors, playing with friends and what not. You can of course work around real-life priorities. Now, I say that you need the ability to clear your schedule. If your job is 60 hours a week, if you can only sneak online for 2 hours a night in any case, if workload has a tendency to bloom at inconvenient times, this job is not for you.

Do I have the patience to give feedback?

As a correspondent, I can say that you will probably spend twice as long giving feedback and writing up your findings as you are actually online testing. It's not glamourous, expect to feel like a glorified secretary.

Do I have the ability to take direction?

This testing is not a game where you run off and do whatever you want. You're not going to be able to focus on going cool places, getting loot, or making money. The devs want you to test aspect X, you test aspect X. If it's boring, too bad. If you have to do it 50 times, that's life.

Do I have experience testing?

If you already play on TestCenter or have previously been involved in beta testing, then you know what to expect, and what is expected of you. It's not required, but it is helpful.

Do I have combat experience?

Sorry folks, this is the combat balance, not the crafting balance. We're not going to be crafting (well, probably not), we're going to be whacking each other with sticks. If you have no experience with combat, you won't be useful to the devs.

How do I apply?

Please send mea PM with:

1. Your station name if different from your handle (no passwords, please)

2. Why you want to test in the sandbox, and why you feel you would be good at it. Please include the answers to the questions listed above. Thanks

I tried to send you a pm Texxie but it wouldnt fit So here it is

Character name: Khaydin
Server Wanderhome

How long you've been a CM:

I was one of the first cms on my server, well over a year. Before I started playing SWG I knew I wanted to be a CM (good old Prima guide). I am the oldest cm on my server and one of three 12 point crafters. Though I don’t like to gloat, according to my customers and competition my meds are the best on wanderhome. I am passionate about CM and an active forum member. On the forums I try my best to answer questions and smite down the trolls but for all I do there’s little to no change. As a tester I would be able to help shape cm, the way it was meant to be. It would be an honor and great privilege to take part in the sandbox testing.

If you believe we are to be COMBAT Medics or Combat MEDICS:

I believe we are COMBAT MEDICS with an emphasis on group support. Offensive meds are a form of support as are our healing abilities. I believe combat medics should be vital in group pvp and pve as the guide states:

"Able to dole out life with one hand and death with the other, the combat medic is perhaps the most respected unit in any battle." - Prima guide pg 300

Your number 1 problem with the profession:

I believe CMs as a profession was poorly implemented during launch. We lack a class role. As it stands doctors can prep combatants before the fight, heal more effectively in battle then cms, and tend their wounds after the fight. Where does this leave cms? I strongly believe CMs should have the role of battlefield healers. We should be the heart and backbone of the group. Poisons should not dominate pvp but should be felt, as they are a form of attrition. As it stands poisons are not overpowered but only appear to be. In pve poisons are only effective against mobs with near global immunities such as elders, kryates, and the deathwatch. With the advent of 90% armors and 3k buffs pvp has become just like pve.

Just some other information, which might be useful

- When selling my cm meds I put the principle before the profit. I keep in contact with my customers and provide at an affordable price despite using resources valued at 500 cpu.

- I love crafting cm meds and am always searching for ways to improve them.

- I do take part in the gcw and pvp often (guild wars and such). I also do solo and group pve.

- I've never done rifleman and nowhere near a fotm.

- I believe strongly in balance and refuse to sell or use spider venom. As a high-end crafter I see no skill when all that matters is a looted sub component. Crafting is an art.

- My one claim to fame was when I made an 842 a tick poison before spider venom was implemented. Scared the heck out of my competition. It was never used and I still have it and the exceptional sub components.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me .

Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Shawn Reilly "SolSpur"

I'll go, Im in central time and play every night after work and can free up weekend time too. I love CM, once I got it I never looked back, did CH for fun then tinkered with other profs, but CM is it as far as Im concerned

Mustela Furo on Chilastra, Im a MD/MCM and I play us as a combat MEDIC, I feel we are a support class, although we come up a little short in the support category I do spam my poisons, but mostly to weaken up the opposition so my group can kill em easier.

I guess my biggest problem is in the middle of a fight, I end up using more doctor skills the CM skills. I think on the battlefield it should be the other way around.
