Thread: Combat Medic and LOS

MMOs today seem to be filled with people that point at something they don't like and whine. Combat Medics on Starsider are currently what a lot of the fingers are pointing at. There isn't an hour that goes by when someone addresses me and goes "healing and attacking through walls is an exploit, you're going to pay when it gets nerfed". Aside from not understanding what a true exploit is, these people don't complain when I am saving their asses, only when they are being killed.

I believe there was a problem with Combat Medic effectiveness skill mods not affecting Poisons and Diseases. This means after patch we will be doing 100% more damage as most skill modifiers appear to be a % increase. My poisons tick for 470 and have 70 potency. After patch when CM Effectiveness is supposedly fixed and damage is reduced by 75% it will tick for 235, which I suppose is half decent considering everything will be scaled down along with it. When multiple component quality is fixed and resources for advanced components finally appear it will hit far harder, most probably back to 400/tick levels...then you add a working AE component that one or two doctors could not possibly hope to counteract quickly enough and you have a new whine:

"DEVS READ!!!11' CM ownz entire groups through walls solo with unhealable damage this needs fixed/nerfed!"

The Combat Medic is a non-conventional combat/support class. Any sort of benefits people see with something that is different from what they normally see is considered "exploit" or "overpowered". Any sort of negatives we suffer are simply shrugged off with "your class is different, that's all" then idiots point out all your "overpowered" abilities. Unless they play one actively in PvP and PvE they will never understand what we have to go through(or not go through) to achieve whatever incredible or pathetic feats we perform. It has always been that way with MMOs, and is an ever increasing trend...I don't think it will go away any time soon.

Hmm correction on the % increase. Poisons already tick at 200%, so I guess +100 Combat Medicine Effectiveness will tick at 300%, which means 176 damage per tick for a non-advanced poison after 75% reduction...I suppose this could still be good after advanced components appear and multiple identical components are finally taken into account for the final products. Unfortunately those two factors are things that are not working right now

Merrin i completely Agree, Let's hope the damage is upped if so then life is good. Especially if aoe's work, i have been pretty stoked just thinking of the thought of AOE dot's working. Afterall i was a Mentalist in DAOC on a pvp server. While i died alot hehe i owned during fort defenses (pre sc) . I guess in a few hours we shall find out, if we suck or if we are gonna get whine posts about us(unjustified of course).

There is a rumor going around that all DoT damage is not affected by the 75% damage reduction implementation. My character on TC is not high enough to test it yet(try finding med xp on a server with 50 people, half of which seem to be non-combat) and healing my little faction troopers is pretty slow going. If DoT damage is not reduced...there are some rebels in Coronet I would like to introduce to my new 705 point Mind Poison.

My first thought was that the Dot's weren't going to be affected, but guess what? If they aren't after 1-2 days they sure as hell will be><

Honestly this entire dot and los being too powerful is a load of C R A P

the people that whine about it should get a doctor to pvp with them...

PEOPLE THERE IS A DIRECT COUNTER FOR DOTS, IT'S CALLED A DOCTOR!!!

seriously people cry nerf when there is already a ingame solution to DOTs...its called a doctor...

really pisses me off that people complain about it...seriously if u think about does KD or eyeshot have a direct counter that makes KD or mind damage go away?!

think not...

cant handle dots? make friends with a doctor...

Single dots will not be a problem, AE dots will be. Say in a random large scale fight a CMtosses an AE Mind Poison wish respectable AEradiusand hits10people. It generally takes 2-3 applications of /cure poison to stop poison...10 seconds per application, 30 seconds per person. Even if that group had 2 Doctors, most of the group would incap =p

have you tested out the cures on pvp poisons and not the npc poison? I know that npc poisons are a lot stronger than the player made ones.. I have seen my poison instantly healed in combat before so...

if u noticed that dots have lvl A-C just like doctor packs have level A-C for cure. If they dont work at a one on one ratio then i think the power of the doctor's cures could be brought in line with the power of the dots and not vice versa...I would also think a AoE cure pack for doctors wouldnt be out of line...Aoe dots are also considerably easier to stop then single targets...AOE dots have about 1/2 the effectiveness of the single target lines...

oh more point about dots..if dots dont require LOS, then I want the stopping to throw motion removed so I can run and throw dots just as pistoleers can run and shoot. That 3 secs of animation to throw a dot is gonna mean death....

This is curing my own poison while testing dot ticks and such. I was using poison cure C.

self cure is 10 secs cure other is 4 secs...

doesnt surprise me that it wouldnt stop them in one use tho...

would be better to raise the power of the cure packs then lowerthe damage of the dots...also we dont knnow how well the packs will function with the new pvp reduction in. I'd love to hear ur post patch results on cure pack vs dots. Fact is dots are weak enough as is, raising cure packs to properly stop dots is a given. AOE cures would also be in line as a counter to the aoe dot line...

1. My vote is definitely for requiring LOS to hit; but, like bleeds, LOS shouldn't need to be maintained once a target is "infected" (for the duration of that particular dose). I'm of the opinion that this is currently an exploit and people should avoid situations in which this occurs.

2. No question this is an exploit that needs to be fixed ASAP as a hotfix. Any attack, whether successful or not, should cause a TEF.

I am using 10 seconds because the logical choice in PvP is for the Doctor to cure self so they can stay alive to help others. Most likely as you are curing yourself, the enemy Combat Medic will have reapplied the AE poison and *bang* you're dead.

actually its a wash with between u and the CM it takes me 10 sec to toss another dot so basically if i was redotting and u were curing it would wash out in the end. basically 2 combatants just neutralizing each other...

AOE packs would solve the issue the other people with yougetting hit with dots from teh AOE
