Actually, you are supposed to be able to gain xp from up to 1km away -- however, you do not if you are inside a house or a building. Go ahead and give it a try. I got a whopping 2 xp fromeach advanced liquid suspensions I dropped in there when I was out adventuring near my factory but didn't receive jack when I was inside the house next to it (easily within 20m).

I seem to recall somewhere, a while back, where we were getting general crafting XP instead of medical crafting XP from Food/Chem Factories.

Could that be where the XP is going?

something with a factory is broken? color me frikkin surprised....
