Thread: Questioning Combat Medic... and this game.

Setting aside that I'm sick and tired of factorying new stims constantly, and the incredible amount of time I spend doing this--I'm really not understanding the use of ANY healing profession.

Went out with my brother (pikeman/ch) and I'm a combat medic dabbling in CH. I'm chucking over 1K heals at my brother while we do sharnaffs... and do you know how long I can keep him standing?

Till his mind runs out. Doesn't matter how fast or slow I heal him, within 2 fights his mind is empty. If he incaps 3 times in 10 minutes he dies, so what do we do? Sic the pets and stand back.

Guild went on a krayt raid last night and I joined them. How did we fight it? Sic the pets and start blasting! Why no tank? Because you can't keep him healed. Oh his health and action will be nice and full when he drops, but that mind bar? Empty. Quickly, too.

My brother takes a 300 shot to health? His action and mind dropped too. He's **edit**ed, and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. So sic your pet, and then stand back while it tanks, then say "trick1" after the fight and he's all better.

So want to know the purpose of a combat medic? Healing the non-tanks in the group, that are too dumb to sit still. Medics can heal the guys that don't panic. Tanks heal the combat medics since they suck at tanking, and doctors revive people that run out of mind. And the creature handler looks at them all and wonders why he isn't just soloing this.

I do believe I'm going master creature handler, master bio-engineer, because if the only thing I NEED big heals for is pets, I might as well have non-random 1K pet heals, right?

If my take on healing people is off, please correct me. This game is like playing SimCity in first person.

The purpose of a combat medic is mainly to sabotage opposing forces in large scale pvp taking as many out of the fight as possable allowing your side to have the tactical advantage all while keeping those around you healthy and fighting, and ironicly our diseases are the cure for TEF wars.

First off your questioning combat medics on the assumption that they can heal mind damage which they can't. Medics, doctors, and combat medics heal the body, not the mind. If they could heal mind you'd be playing in god mode. Mind damage is the only limitation to pve and pvp which is why classes like bounty huntersm rifleman, any class that can target the mind do so well in pvp.

I do agree with you that pets are used way to much. It would not be so bad if they still gave XP for healing them, but the devs have just made the problem worse. Seems like the devs are taking it out on the medics for the high use of pets. Anymore I only get small amounts of healing XP for heals due to weapons use or having to sit around in a medcenter all day (not exactly my favorite thing to do). Anymore, you are right, people just send their pets in on Big hunts to take the damage.

But, the combat med does have a purpose. Its poisons and diseases are potent, especially those dealing with the mind. This is exactly why there cannot be mind healing, because people could solo just about anything. There would be no challenge.

I would suggest you try being a healer in a raid or something. Generally, I notice people target the players more than there pets, or spend some time in a cantina. I got about 6000 healing XP healing the dancers and musicians and they were quite appreciative of it.

I think my post is being missed.

I never said I assumed combat medics can heal Mind damage. I indicated I fail to see the reason that a Combat Medic is any better at healing than a Master Medic. I'm not referring to PvP either, because it's totally broken, out of balance, and stupid at the moment.

I'm saying that what is the point of all this healing potential--if it doesn't CHANGE anything. I can't keep a tank standing any longer than a Medic can. I can't keep a tank standing any longer than a Novice Medic at 4/0/0/0 and some nice Stim B's they bought! Why? Because when his Mind hits 0 he falls. It's not a "limitation to PvP & PvE, it's completely broken. How long can my brother go against a sharnaff bull with me healing him? One fight, maybe. How long could he go with just a Master Medic? One fight. How about with three doctors, two combat medics, seven master medics, and an entertainer cheering for him?

One fight.

That's my point. The whole system is flawed to hell. Using Mind as the limitation to use an ability (for that matter, using HAM in general) is stupid. Use re-use timers for abilities. Don't want someone to heal that rapidly? Increase the reuse delay. Setting aside the fact that no one can heal mind damage (this isn't just combat medics--it's about healers in general) the tank USES Mind for even his weakest special attacks!

I've been on raids, and everyone drops to mind damage. Not gradually... right away. I'm not becoming a master level elite healer so I can extend someone's life expectancy from 15 seconds to 20 seconds when their Mind runs out anyway. Poisons = No XP or Loot in PvE.

Jerec you are talking about a PVP raid, which is just a chinese fire drill. In every case, people drop because they run out of Mind--RAPIDLY. It's not a limitation, it's a demonstration of the pointlessness of healing people.

I don't recall mentioning I can't XP. I can lob AE stims in the cantina all day at 1000xp a shot--who cares. I'm not going for Master Entertainer Medic, thank you.

I'm not going for any healer, actually, because Pet Stims do the job that needs done for a fraction of the investment. If all I need is to heal pets, then I'll focus on that. Actually I'll go play EQ, because despite how cool Star Wars is to me, this game is souring it rapidly, because I'm tired of playing SimCity.

"I never said I assumed combat medics can heal Mind damage."

From the begining of your post everything you mentioned had to do with mind damage and then questioned our class for not being able to heal it. You implied that our class is usless when compared to a master medic, see next quote.

"I indicated I fail to see the reason that a Combat Medic is any better at healing than a Master Medic."

Combat medics can heal at range while basic medics have to run up and be withing a 7 - 8m range to apply a heal to a single target. We can throw heals 50+ m away and heal multiple players. From your post it's clear you dislike pvp and that where a combat medic shines.

"I've been on raids, and everyone drops to mind damage."

Once again back to the mind damage rant.Pvp is all about who can do the most mind damage before your enemies can do the same. All's fair in war and the mind is a viable target. Without the mind the body is nothing.

"I'm not going for any healer, actually, because Pet Stims do the job that needs done for a fraction of the investment. If all I need is to heal pets, then I'll focus on that. Good luck on your future endevers and I hope you find a game that suits your style of play.

Not missed, just out of place with the wrong topic heading. And out of curiosity, anyone count the number of times he mentioned mind?

Okay I am a combat medic and a doc because I thought the whole poison thing and disease would be a great suppliment to the group besides healing. That and I hate chasing around players to heal them. However, my dots almost never hit and I am a second tier cm. Now if I were a second tier bh I would be kicking butt right now. Okay so I can ranged heal, that costs me money to do. Sometimes people help tip, but it in no way pays for the trips to the planets to get the good stuff or upkeep the many diff harvesters I need to keep going to get all the components. Let's look at it this way (mind you I am not a bh or commando here) you have a bh with a nice weapon he is hitting for what 500 damage or better per shot, inflicting some type of his own dot in a bleed, you have your ranger throwing a trap (ohh and it works), you have your second tier cm throw a poison.. .. hmm it actually hit that time oh.. 20 points of damage!! Now lets add up the cost of the gun the bh used here.. hmm 20k maybe a little more. Lets add the cost of the mabye 12 poisons I threw to try and damage the beast.. now how long will that gun last? Okay he can get it repaired. Now lets add in the cost of the healing I have to do. Someone please help with this problem.. make us more effective, give us a way to afford to heal (I really do like healing people) or give us a class specific weaponsmith created weapon. I know you are all going to say healing is a passive skill and not offnesive realated, but the combat med was supposed to be different in that respect. All I do is ranged heal. I have heard that master combat meds do much better and were useless at my level, but if that is the case then I must master this to do any good. Okay so now I am a master doc and a master combat med... can I kill off those kreetles by my harvester so I can pick up my supply for my meds?

Okay big ramble there.. sorry about that. I am just jealous of all the cool pets and neat weapons everyone gets and the nice damage they can do while I am less needed to heal unless it is a pet.. and heck I just burn money on those since I get no exp now for healing them. That was mean of you devs. Give pet healing exp back. We are not dancers, we have to pay money out to use our stims. The whole purpose of pet stims was so non medics could heal there pets.. fine they can. Now if they want more healing they need a doc around. Hence the need for the healing class.

Okay now where was I.. oh yes mind damage. Yes that needs to be healed in game. Maybe mind wound damage no.. but the regular pool yes. Why not make entertainers more usefull by makeing them as further enhancers during combat.. like a bard so to speak. That way they can do something other than staring at cantina's.

Eugee, you hit it all right on the money.

Personaly, I don't - and have never/will never - care about the poison/diseases. I am one of the few who interpreted "Combat Medic" to mean "Medic Capable of Healing Whilst In Combat" not "Medic that Engages IN Combat."

So yeah, you're questioning the point of the Combat Medic? I'm right there with you. I haven't played in weeks, but I care enough about the game that I probably will keep paying for a game I don't even play, just hoping that they fix the system enough that healers are usefulto *players*.

PS. on a side note, I read the little snippets that fall out every now and again of what dedicated healers will be able to do in World of Warcraft and just drool all over myself.

Oh yeah, let me get in here and mix this up a little bit. SolSpur, I think you're missing the point completely:

Let me amend your statement - Combat Medics shine in PvP using area-mind poisons. Period. They are not significantlybetter healers in PvP than novice medics with B stims - because, by your own admission, "PvP is all about who can do the most mind damage before your enemies can do the same."

Once again back to the mind damage rant.Pvp is all about who can do the most mind damage before your enemies can do the same. All's fair in war and the mind is a viable target. Without the mind the body is nothing.

No, if its out of place its only because it'd be better in the general forum, because it *really* details a problem with ALL healing classes. A genuine problem - a problem that limits the effectiveness of all healers to pitiful levels. It's clear you're aregular to the PvP scene that makes useof mind damage constantly. That's all well and good, but your preferance in playstyle does not negate the fact that this*IS* a real problem - so easeup on being so smug, eh?

Yeah, that's total BS, you should be invincible if you have a CM stimming you.

How about: if you are getting incapped 3 times in ten minutes you are fighting above you level. This should be obvious.

of course one of our roles in pvp combat is applying poisons and (to a certain extent) diseases. that is just one of our roles though, the other is to keep the group alive while our damage over time and their styles wreck the opponents (usually mind) pools. the latter is not easily done though with everybody aiming for the head as well. okay the occasional stopping shot, LLC or random pet will hit action or health every now and then so we don't feel all left out and have something to do in the healing compartment as well. unless of course we have some BH spamming eyeshot on us... most everytime when i'm in pvp i just comment over teamspeak to my guildies "sorry bro, mind damage... can't help ya". in pve we do fine as it is rather easy to keep grauls, gurreks and the like alive who heal mind damage with a simple trick1 while our ranged area C heals the ham costs of the fighters, but that is another topic...

add to this the fact that we medics are the class that burns through credits/resources/crafting-time the fastest while doing our job (not counting crafters here, they tend to hold their own with their sales i heard) whilst on the other hand being unable to maintain a steady income by ourselves (doctors i heard have it a little bit better, can't talk from experience though... i haven't yet dared to put stim B's on the market i have to make with 5 expermientation points and the market for ranged stim Bs is just not there) and yes it gets a bit frustrating sometimes...

i guess coming from games like DAoC, where a good healer could really turn the tides of pvp encounters and there was only one pool targeted at any given time (seeing as there WAS only one pool) AND rezzers were plenty, most of us envisioned a different role when we chose the healing professions in SWG. heck it's easier to throw a ranged area stim C and have everyone back at full action/health than to spreadheal seeing as you don't get interrupted, unless you happen to be knockdown/dizzied. it's just very frustrating having people incapped left and right while you stand by as a healing class unable to do anything about it...

that being said i would gladly give away my poisons and diseases if the CM healing part was more involved, not every novice medic dabbler could heal their bars completely using a nice stim B on themselves and we could actually keep people on their feet (which would involve SWGs big no-no: healing mind damage)

so group of maxed out people fighting Pubans or Marauderon Endor or one of the Tusken Camps or - Fort on Tatdropping to mind hits in less than a minute are fighting above their level? guess we all need to bring a Rancor or 3 ATST than, so the stuff gets trivial.

I'm sorry but your an idiot if you think this is how PvP should be. There is a problem with mind damage and it needs to be fixed.

You want to know how bad mind damage has gotten.

Almost every mob I fight anymore aims at the mind and or uses some sort of scatter shot to hit all three.

I'm a master CM..some friends and I went to endor to have some fun but all those mobs hit the mind to.

So here's how effective a CM with the great AoE heals are when these mobs aim at the mind..

so...look at all the players minds
