Thread: New to CM: Diseases in PVP?

Ok, before everyone starts telling me to use the search feature, I did, and not finding what I was looking for, I am asking a simple question here. I just became master CM about two weeks ago, and I am looking to stock up my arsenal for some pvp action.

I am master rifles/master CM. My question is this: Is there a reason for me to get diseases at all for pvp, or just stock up on the different types of mind poisons with a few health/action poisons just in case?

What is the advantage to having a disease to throw if it ticks after 40 seconds, and in all likelyhood i'll be dead by then?

My strategy as I see it is to throw a few mind poisons, and headshot3 until dead. I know its not that simple, and yes I'm just starting to pvp, so please don't grief me too much. Should I use diseases, or just this strategy, or what? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Disease is the only method to incap someone with only CM skills.

Most of your apponents will be spamming specials in order to kill you. The most rare buff these days is the music buff. So often a disease to the secondaries like Focus can really beusefull. Soon enough and you will be having them kill themselves.

This is helpful in large groups or longer battles. One on One and the tick rate my be too slow.

Thanks for the quick answers guys. I continued searching and also found out how the curing of poisons and such work, so that it is useful to stack some health and/or action on top of the poison ones if i have time to keep a doc curing longer.

This kind of information makes me want to never drop CM. Now I just need to collect the good resources to make some sweet poisons....

Target their doctor, area focus disease. Congratulations, you've made their doc a one-heal wonder.

Um...the doctor would just area cure himself and everyone else affected with a click of his button. No, you target their doctor and spam headshot3, then once he's down and you're in your dying momentswhile the melee are pounding on you do you try and toss your poison/disease combo.

Meanwhile the carbineers and pistoleers are asking the TK/melee folks if they can play too.

Diseases can be very useful. They incap if target runs, can make spamming specials for them impossible, and make and wreak havoc on their BF and mind pools. For me, what it comes down to is:

Will the fight last longer than 40-50 seconds?

If the fight is going to be over in 20, there's no use for diseases. This will happen on a one-on-one fight with little focus on defenses. In large scale battles, they are very useful however. Diseases take 40 seconds to tick, so if you use them, throw them first, or else you are prolonging their tick even longer (but I usually put a strong poison C, then throw the disease). If the fight lasts long enough, after that 40 seconds where they get that first mind disease tick, it can REALLY change things.

So again, if the target will die before the disease ticks, then it's useless, but in longer fights, the diseases can change the outcome of the battle. Carry them around, but with less emphasis than poisons.

Not if they're trying to heal everyone else....

Besides, with a good AoE 35 disease, how many people do you really think he could heal? (especially if he has to try and heal it 4-6 times to get it to go away....(even jedi have to self heal about 7-14 times to get rid of my stuff.)

CM/DOC/Smuggler is very effective in pvp try a 150 mind tick poison with a 110 tick mind disease and a CM in FD state with 27oo buffs and a high kin stun armor comp/PSG combo, I guarantee you will sing a different tune, I know I did afterwards

Yeah you got AoE disease and guess what..doctors got an AoE cure now. Since they reset their cure every 4-5 seconds they can effective cure everything you throw on them before it ticks once even if their weaker AoE cures are less potent than the disease. If they use singles then they cure a venom enhanced disease and a partial of whatever else you stacked.

I've only seen Jedi with minimum healing templates take that long to cure off a disease. Then again if you're dead they've got all the time in the world to cure and channel.
