Thread: Why is CM the only prof with 3 columns of Novice Prereqs- CHANGED! Thanks Devs!

Under the recently announced changes to the professions, I believe that CM is the ONLY profession requiring 3 columns of Novice Profession pre-reqs (and in 2 different trees). As announced, CM will require General Healing, Pre-Combat Medic in the Medic line and Ranged Support 4 in the Marksman line.

As far as I can tell ALL combat profs (including BH, SL and Commando) now only require 2 columns prereqs.

Entertainers require at most 2, artisan crafters require only 1 column, and now BEs only require 1 column.

I'd like the Devs to give a justification why a CM needs to spend more skill points than ANY OTHER ELITE PROFESSION.

My suggestion is to dump the Ranged Support Line. This doesnt make any sense with the revised system anyway. Combat medics have nothing to do with firearms in the propsed revamp.

UPDATE - EARLY REPORTS FROM TC SAY PREREQS ARE NOW PISTOL LINE AND ONE LINE IN MEDIC. IT MAY NOT BE IDEAL, BUT BETTER. THANKS!

I'd agree with that, not that it would affect us rifleman/CMs considering we will need that line for rifleman anyway

Close, but not quite correct. Commando, BH, smuggler, and SL still have pre-reqs in two different novice professions, so we are only 14 skill points more expensive than those.

Also, ranger appears to still require master scout as a pre-req, making them undisputed king of skill point costs, coming in 5 skill points more expensive than CM.

Your point is still valid though - will combat medics really be worth the cost?

I was so busy with the whole magical healing aspect I never even caught that. Good eye, and good question

I agree that the ranged support line is rather useless for the CM profession, but we could try think positive since CM will take up 34 skill points less when the CU goes live...

Good point, I edited the original post. Its still 14 or 29 points more than a combat prof, 29 points more than a doc, and 43 points more than artisans and now BE. Perhaps ranger will still be higher, I dont think they have defined it yet.

I would think the skill point requirement should be a top issue on our list.

Early TC reports say CM Prereqsits been changed to Pistols line in Marksman and one line in Medic.

Seems that the devs are still playing around with template formats (considering that this contradicts TH's post from just a week ago). Anyway, it seems much better in line with other Elite Prof Prereqs, which is a good thing.

It is good news, but I'd rather have 0004 Marksman and one line in Medic so as to not lock us down totally to one type of templates. I allways considered the Carbine to be the ultimate support weapon for Combat Medics.

Well, real life combat medics use pistols as their standard weapon in most or all armies I know.

That said, yes, I'd prefer to be able to pick Carbine instead. I've been a Master CM, Carbineer/Doc Dabbler for a long time and I'd prefer to keep that weapon choice without wasting skillpoints.

Well, there are a few diffrent opinions about that. I wouldn't be able to say for sure.

But nevertheless, most real life combat medics seldom find themselves outside of the basic medic tree so the point is pretty moot. Combat medic is a rather confusing misnomer for the class, which have caused no end of argument.

omg hahaha real life??? listen folks, in real life the combat medic is behind the line healing the wounded. the real fighting is done by the soldiers. they don't run around poisoning and diseasing everyone...lol. maybe it should take morenovice lines than any other elite prof cause no other elite prof gets to poison as far as i know. at any rate,i have an idea, tell me what you think. lets get rid of disease, poison and fire from the game. lets get rid of any dot, andcombine the idea of a doc and combat medic.what you think?
