Thread: Terrain Negotiation

I haven't noticed a difference in my running/crawling speed since Exploration III and I'm in the 2nd tree in Ranger ... does anyone know the *exact* details regarding this skill in what it's supposed to do or how it works exactly?

As a Combat Medic, we need to be out there with the hunting party able to keep up with the group. With the base terrain ability of a character, this is impossible. The littlest hill will slow you down and a big hill will take you down to a crawl. Now, CM does get +10 Terrain Negotiation at Master Combat medic, but this is not enough to keep up with the group effectively. The only alternative is to get Exploraton 1 from Scout. But that is 17 points!!! That is a heavy price to have to pay just to stay with your groupmates.


The terrain negotiation at Master should be made to be +20 instead of +10. This will give us at least the basics of being able to move around. It doesn't overshadow the scout because they can always get much more than that. But it would at least give us enough to be effective out with a group in the field.


Think about this, we all have spent SO much time talking about the wasted Artisan points, but that is a complex problem with no easy solution. Here is 17 points that we are wasting that has a simple and effective solution. That 17 points is worth one whole tree or skills.This should be raised as a higher issue to the Devs!

its not even working right now i dont think...


its silly to even put terrain negotiation in the class..its useless we heal at range you dont need to close in...


i think this skill is a left over from the whole idea that CM support helps you get to ur injured teammates faster. uh never understoodthat one...if we are healing at ranged hy do we need that...

Well terrain negotiation DOES work when you get it, it's certainly better than not having it that's for sure.

It's also VERY necessary. You still get groups where people are spread out and you'll need to run a little bit to get in range to heal people and if there just happens to be a ditch between you and the guy you're trying to get in range of, you'll appreciate terrain negotion very much.

My only beef is that each of the combat medic support skill levels says that it helps you get to the patient faster but it doesn't. I'd like to see +5 or +10 terrain negotiation added to each level. If creature handlers can have pet stims then combat medics can for sure infringe a little on a scout's skill, it's not like we'll be able to set up camps or harvest or anything.

never understoond terrain negotiation in CM...the whole purpose of CM is to get out of the need to heal up close...with master CM u should be able to heal well over 40 m even 50m...stims arent even LOS...so i dont even haveto get out of a ditch to use it...


problem isnt terrain negotiation its morons that run...


id rather see the support class be exactly that combat support...read my post on support tree...

personally id rather see more support combat skills over terrain negotiation for the class tho...

Yes, AmidEpoc is exactly right. Terrain negotiation does work. It makes a HUGE difference going up and down hills. It helps a Combat Medic stay up with the group. If you don't believe it, group with some PC's with Exploration 1 going to the Emperor's Retreat. Try going on one mission with them running around through those mountains. They will constantly be waiting for you to crawl your way up the mountain to stay with them. Even with the +10 of Master Combat Medic, they will quickly out distance you.

I've taken exploration 2 and the terrain negotiation bonuses have helped me save my groupmates quite a bitby allowing me to keep up with them on uneven terrain.



Going to hurt like hell when i have to give up the scout skills for the doctor wound treatment line. :/

I've been searching the internet forums for SWG things in general. Somewhere i have read that TN would be added to our profession. Is this true or was I daydreaming? If it is true, how much can we expect to see and what level of scout exploration will it be comparable to. thanks for your time guys!

currently we only get TN at master combat medic. but it's only +10..even a novice scout with only explore one has +20 so it's real useless currently. If they are adding more then that would be good. to master ch and doctor I have to drop explore 4 to keep some decent weapon skills already mastered doctor and working up the ch treee and points are getting "scarce"

The Dev's intention right now, since theyhave decidedto fix NOTHING in the CM profession in the next big patch, is to add Terrain Negotiation and Burst Run Efficency bonus'sto the Combat Support Line of the CM tree.


Give them 4 or 5 more patches and they might decide to fix CM problems, maybe.

You know what though, I won't complain about more TN. So many times it's a huge hassle, in fact I started taking missions soley based on which direction terrain was flatter and started skipping towns in the mountains.


Ya, a lot else is broken, but we could be Squad Leaders or Bio Engineers

Please excuse the post - I know there's a lot of discussion on this, but I have to ask yet again. From your experience, is the terrain negotiation attainable at the master level of CM equivalent tothat of Expl 3 in Scout?


Also, as I climb this tree I may have to sacrifice entertainer skills. Often out & about entertainer's are few and far between. In reading the posts, however, this is not a skill a lot of CM's opt for, why?
