Thread: Down with Ghost Towns Why not let us addon to the static cities?

Having travelled around quite a bit since I returned to the game, I'm finding a ton of Ghost Town player cities that are dotting the landscape.

Does anyone else think players should be able to build right next to say Mos Eisley or Theed? It would help make them bigger and more city like and most players seem to congregate near them anyway. Plus wouldn't you rather say you have a house in Mos Eisley than some place that no one ever goes to on the edge of the planet map? It would add to immersion of feeling like you're part of the Star Wars galaxy.

But "Where do we place faction bases?" My thought is make bases a series of structures that faction players place together to make a larger fortified base. And if you really need to goto your home in Theed, for example, you would have to make sure you're not Special Forces unless you want to risk it. Political control could flip flop between faction and leaving one or two of the larger ones (Mos Espa, Theed) to be run by non factioned players.

I think this would make the static cities feel more important/useful rather than just spaceports and set pieces and help minimize the amount of ghost towns we end up with.

Anyone else have similar thoughts???

No, I don't think players should be able to expand NPC cities. If anyone, only the Devs should be able to do that. I don't think anyone should be in "control" of Mos Eisley, Theed, ect.
I do think players should be able to rent instanced rooms, though.

What is the whole point? I think this would be inconvient. Especially if your neighbor was a Rebel and you were an Imperial. I think this would cause more trouble than good anyway.

Why not though? Theed, Mos Eisley, Coronet... these 3 have the most players out of any city I have been to. Have you seen Mos Espa? It's a ghost town. What's the point of even wasting the resources on incorporating them if they aren't used? I guarantee if the game were adapted to allow player control of the NPC cities it would only benefit immersion, gameplay and player interaction.

I'm starting to think people don't want a Star Wars MMOG but a Star Wars graphical chat room with some of attitudes towards SWG.

Think idea of adding onto the ghost static cities is not a bad idea as long as no person controls it but think it should be merchant shops only. Or devs make actual malls out of some of the empty buildings that ppl can rent vending sites. Have ability for chefs only to rent vendor space in cantinas..master docs only to rent space in med centers ..hmm maybe tailors/armorsmiths at hotels..and not sure where to put weaponsmiths lol. I think that would create cities such as mos entha etc to be actually used more. I think player cities should be decreased as available planet sites...but make area limits larger. Too many empty ones that think people could combine with. Also make it where persons house has to be entered by owner once every say 30 days or its resigned from cities. That would stop ppl from other servers adding houses just so small amt of actual players can have larger city items but otherwise a ghost town.

Exactly. I think the idea of letting players make cities is cool, but it's not working out as intended. This like a table top RPG with graphics. There's no "video game" here. There's nothing to bring people in to play unless you're the type of person who played Dungeons and Dragons in high school. And even then it's still laggy, buggy and barren. Here's a typical gameplay session for me. Shoot some critters> Chat and shoot critters with other people> Click dialog boxes to make items.

Wow. It's purely the social aspect that makes this game. Sorry if I offend but I already have a social life interacting with real people. The only difference (well now that I live in the city that is) is there's no wantonly shooting small animals

Bring players together in the cities by letting them manage the real Star Wars cities. Make them alive and part of the game through player work. Guild cities are just that, built up for the guild with no reason for non-guild members to go there except to visit a vendor that was spam-vertised to them outside a starport.

I agree. I'm tired of walking into a PC town and finding noone there. It annoys me. If we could build onto other towns that would be great. I think someone should have to run for mayor every 3 weeks and all. What are people's problems?
