Thread: Player Cities Revamp

I think we can all agree, player cities need some type of revamp. There are so many opinions on what. Adding more features to the cities to make it feel more city like. Examples, houses, gardens, plants, store fronts, the cost of items placed in a city to the city funds, % of the training from trainers actually going to the city funds, and I am sure a lot more. We have all been complaining about this for a while. I guess one thing at a time. Some of this would affect the Artisan Professions and the Elite branches. Come on dev's give a little love to the Player Cities. LOL
I thinka couple of things that need to happen:
1) Terrain *mapping* where we can change the terrain within the city a bit.. ie get rid of trenches within the city, hills, rocks, trees, etc... things that interfere with construction
2) Allow us to build bridges like the one in Theed... so that we can expand our city over waterways
3) Let us rotate structures instead of block modes pointing just N,S,E,W.
4) Lower the sillouettes of certain structures like Parking Garages... they take up WAY too much room for how small they are
5) Give us different models for specific structures (Cantinas, Cloning Facilites, Hospitals, etc).
6) Allow for high-rise buildings that may cost more maintenance but take up the same amount of lots... specifically med centers (for example)
7) Expand the *city area* for each level of city by 20%. Terrain sometimes makes it very difficult to place enough housing structures within city limits in order to grow
8) Allow for multiple people to declare residence in a building that they are at least admin on. Let's face it... you encourage marriages in the game by giving them the option, but they have to live in different houses to both be residents of a city. This would assist in fixing the problems with #7 listed above.
9) Give us faction specific structures for rebel, neutral, and imperial cities. For instance... maybe give a rebel recruitment center for a rebel city that allows for players to join / declare without having to search for a base with NPC's outside of it.
10) Allow for Starports to be placed (X amount of them) determined by city size (maybe 10% higher number of population over requirements for a metropolis).
11) This one is near and dear to me... an actual MALL. Maybe allow for the linking of structures to give an actual mall look and feel to it... or at the very least a structure that already has X number of vendors in it that you then give players admin rights to each vendor that they use.
Just some thoughts off the top of my head that would really make for cities to become more unique and nicer on the eyes.
I aggree... starports in cities would be awesome, but you need to have a reason for having them (like a HUGE amount of people living there). 150 people might be kinda high... 100 though would be doable (metropolis +25 people). Have that and then cap it at 4 per planet.

Great Ideas! 5 Stars for both of you. They seriously do need to revamp cities. I live ona city on Dantooine and there is no purpose in me placing a house there. Its basically just for storage. StarPorts would be a great idea! Mabye you need 15-200 citizens to qualify for one. Lets face it... I don't want to see a Starport in every city. Perhaps there can be a cap of 3-4 per planet and make it so you have to maintain 150-200 citizens. If not it goes poof and the next city in line gets one.
I'd love to see high-rise apartments where they are civic structures and the maintenance goes to the city (so you need to make sure that you have enough sold before putting in the high-rise). And you gave me a 2nd idea... Storage Sheds. Again... civic structure that people *rent* where the money goes to the city!

Yeah great idea with the starports. I think having to increase the distant betewen the cities would help too. That way they are not to on top of each other. Player cities really offer no big benefit, other than being able to Specialize. I think like building bazzars for markets would be cool. Let there be different types of garden items. Put in some parks or something to spruce things up. Even apartments would be a cool idea and think of the revenue it could bring in for a city.
I can't place structures myself without having another Militia members grant rights to me.
Why would I want to grant rights to another user?
Especially if the player is new and doesn't quite grasp home
orientation (i.e. main doors facing the same "street" direction)
or, more horribly, if the person is just a wank and decides to
plop a house smack in the middle of a "street".
