Thread: To return the land to the players and fix lag/housing issues: INSTANCE CITIES

Go to Cnet...

bike out to 5km away from the starport.

You will be dodging buildings the whole way.

Same in Dantooine, same in Naboo, same everywhere.a

Houses create massive frame rate loss as well as lag issues (server database overloaded).

Worst of all, the land is not there to PLAY anymore.

I would suggest SOE remove all housing from the game and create INSTANCES just like in Kashyyk for player housing and player cities.

Each major city will have the 'goverment' building (tall black tower) be the portals to the housing instances. Housing instances for cities will just be multiple levels of 'apartments'.

Architects can sell the apartment type model that players can 'load' into the owner's terminal.

Player cities will be just the big tall black central building with surrounding shuttleport and npc stations (all in all no bigger than 1km radius) with instance to access the player city.

'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

...............I dunno, Maybe if they did it right, but from their track record the devs would probably leave it all buggy and stuff.

Intances just don't feel right in my opinion. It is the way eq2 is set up, and I can't quite put my finger on it, but it made the world feel less immersive. I would be very upset to see instances here. Kashyyyk is bad enough already. Just my 2cp.

In my opinion, this is not a good idea. It's very, VERY hard to implement code-wise (how are you going to instance already made maps?).

I have a couple of solutions I can think of:

1) They should've limited housing to player cities only from the very beginning (except harvesters and such).

2) Houses in non-city locations should take more lots, or more maintenance (maybe better solution) to encourage living in cities.

3) House purge (with the newly implemented house pack-up ability)

4) Apartments in NPC cities with instances - this is MUCH easier to instance than a whole area on the map.

Now, I only think options 3 and 4 would ever be implemented, but the 2x maintenance on non-city housing is actually a good idea (both a money sink and encourages people to move to cities or move their vendors to malls, etc.)

I like the cities as they are. They just need to do a purge, that's all.

Yea i agree...just do a purge...that will solve alot of our problems. And then continue the purge, like if someone is inactive for 3 months then their house gets packed up in their data pad, that will keep the problem solved forever.

Each server is different, however; each server has land loss and lag because of housing. I don't see a solution coming at all. Don't be prepared for one. I'm not saying this because the developers won't do it. I made that statement because it would take a lot of man hours, resources, and mass server downtime to prune thousands upon thousands of structures per server.

The Developers might decide that they need to extend NPC cities 'No Build' zones to help relieve lag time and open up enough space for players to use around the cities. They might also use the new 'House Pack-Up' option to pack these houses away and place them in the player's datapad for future. This idea would work but would take time to figure out who has retired from the game or long vacations have prohibited the upkeep of their domain.

Actual player-based apartments won't work. Like mentioned, the above coding structure, lag within the building with 'x' players with 'x' items might overload or cause the server to slow down to unpleasant rates. A great idea! Don't get me wrong butI don't see this as a solution.
