For that matter, are there ANY ways to get money in your city, other than donations? I decided to finish up Architect with my mayor, since XP is doubled this week. I went ahead and installed an architect trainer, figuring to have the money go right back into the town coffers. Well, the trainer took my money well enough, but the city treasury didn't grow by a credit. Is this guy on the take or something?

Near as I can tell, there are only a few ways to get income for your city:

  1. Taxes (personal)

  2. Taxes (sales)

  3. Trainers

  4. Garage

  5. Shuttleport

Are there any that I am missing? And do ANY of these currently work? If you ask me, it kind of blows that our cities are not being funded properly. I mean, my city would still be running in the red, but it would be nice to get a little help from the people who use our services. That IS the idea of running a city, isn't it? Do we have a moderator for this board? Someone who can call attention to this problem to the devs?

A city does not gain any money from trainers, even though it cost 1k pertrainer to drop.

Per your list:

  1. Taxes (personal) - Work, however, many people will not stay in a town charging personal taxes unless affiliated with a guild. Too many towns struggling out there to stay afloat that dont charge personal taxes.

  2. Taxes (sales) - Bugged nad doesnt work

  3. Trainers - Do not gain any profit

  4. Garage - can tax, however gain very little income

  5. Shuttleport- can gain income

Basically this goes back to an old thread of mine about cities bankrupting mayors. It is very hard for cities to remain in the balck unless the mayor is funding the treasury. Donation did help, but now with so many people cancelling accounts, may be hard to even keep a town or your shuttleport =(

Sales tax can be the biggest contributor to the city funds. If each Merchant pulled in 2mil a week, they'd contribute 60k each with a 3% sales tax. There are many merchants that pull in this much, and a bunch that blow this number out of the water.

I want to make a note about your valuable comments.

With regard to Trainers, the revenue they generate should--key word--be taxed like income tax. You pay them to get trained but city gets nothing? It seems to defeat the purpose of paying to have them there doesn't it?

Trainers cost an initial fee of 1k to place, I dont believe they add to the cost of the weekly maintenance, however, you also do not get a single cr off of the training costs to players.

If I am wrong on this please let me know.

You are right, A'thena. Trainers and Terminals do not give a kick back of funds to the city, although it would be a great help if they would.

Of the taxes available to Politicians, the only working options are Property Tax, Income Tax, Shuttle Tax, and Garage Tax. The Garage and Property Taxes appear to be bug free, thankfully. There are some questions about Income Tax only being collected when a citizen logs in, and the Shuttle Tax only works on out-bound tickets purchased in the city.

Did I mention that I dislike the way certain bugs go months and months without a fix? I hate it with a passion. I could open a ticket everyday for a month, and each day I will get a response that says that the devs know about and are working to fix the problem. Oh, and it will also apologize for the inconvenience to make it all better.

PS - I'm sorry to !@#$ and moan, but I can't help myself anymore.

It just ocurred to me that maybe this is a way for SOE to remove credits from the game. Otherwise, why not fix it?
