Valcyn's population has dropped, and the GCW though picking up slightly is somewhat difficult still, PVE bases disappear so quickly as our SF bases. Conflict provided a draw point for cities on Valcyn, but I think there's more than that.
Theres trade, war and socialising. We have a large city, but it's a ghost-town except for those visiting buff-bots, so I'm curious to hear what people think makes a good city and how to revitalise a ghost-town?

I'm working on that myself. EQ2 wiped out our guild, and now that people are trickling back, we're trying to get our city back to where it used to be. It helps that there are three people here in my apartment (myself, hubby, and roommate) who are actively working to pull back the lost citizens. We're also totally revamping our town concept. First go-round, it was linked to the guild (the now-defunct guild), and there were a lot of restrictions. What we're trying to do is turn our city into a commerce and entertainment center.
I've heard dancers/musicians complaining about how in the "old days" you could find concerts and shows put on, how it wasn't just everyone afk'ing for buffs and credits. Entertainers actually entertained. We're going to try to bring that back.
Right now, we're still waiting on some things, namely for the city election to roll around so we'll have an active mayor again. I think, honestly, that the main thing you need to revitalize a city is the willingness to work for it. Tenacity.
Just my 2 creds.

I found that a great way to increase city traffic is to offer a free method solo group. I know that everyone can't do this... but a solo group run by an alt with an auto-invite macro containing an AT-ST, Dancer, and Musician can generate a lot of traffic. As the word spreads about the group... more and more people come a knocking. Run the group from your cantina, throw some chef vendors in the bar, and post a reference to your mall for other vendors and you are back in business.
Just a suggestion... but it does work if you can.

I think more cities are going to have to form near or around an attraction. Something that draws players such as a PoI or as in our case, we have our city right next to the Rebel Outpost on Rori and that has kept us alive. But, the cities I have seen working are the cities that utilize the interest in the area.
One city is near the Tuskan Fort so that keeps that city alive. Another is near Jabbas hangout. Get the idea? Players are thrilled to be able to shuttle to these places of interest and utilize the services such as cloning and be able to pickup supplies there.
