Step 1) Player Starports - Let's face it...ports are an activity hub...lets move them into player cities.
Step 2) Turn off NPC cantinas and med centers - Ok, now that player cities are easier to get to, let's give people a reason to get to them.
Step 3) Remove NPC city profession trainers - Now that people are spending more time in player cities, trainers should be found at them, too.
Step 4) Remove NPC banks and bazaars - Again, let's give people an excuse to hang out in a player city
Step 5) Allow explore, entertainer and artisan terminals in Player cities
Now, all that's left in NPC cities are quest NPCs, tourist attractions and junk dealers. And the NPC cities won't seem TOO empty because of the NPC presence. Voila, now player cities are hip.
Sadly, I dont' see this EVER happening.

Step 6) remove NPC cities all together.
Their is no need to take away anything from NPC cities I'd rather see more people in Npc cities than in player cities.
Add vendor carts merchents can buy.
Limited Npc housing differnt cities can have differnt bonus like player cities.
Like make x town have a entertainer bonus and another one have a medical bonus might not be as good as player cities but would help get people into the npc cities.

ok, there's another option...remove player cities and allow players to build onto or buy housing in NPC cities..but that's not what this thread is about.

But if a PC city was more like an NPC city, then would you really miss NPC cities? I mean, why would you have to? And then people would be more involved in the society of SWG, which is what most everyone wants. It was the reason for player influenced economy and putting PC cities in in the first place. So allow huge skyscrapers to be placed by high rank mayors in high rank cities. Allow for road paving and this and that. Then you have an NPC city look, but run completely by real people

You're right, because otherwise this would have been a good thread.

Wow, your parents didn't skimp on the social skills when they raised you.

It's true!
Maybe that's why I prefer NPC cities over those social hubs known as player cities.

The problem is, most of them AREN'T hubs, social or otherwise. What motivation is there to spend the money on things and this and that when no one but the 20 people that have a house there are gonna see anyway? I mean, what do you think a city is for? Whatever you list, that should be able to be accomplished in a PC city. Socialize, get missions, train, heal, launch your spaceship! I mean, if I own a ship, and a city, why can't I store my ship in my city?

7) Make a new Mall structure type placeable by a master merchant, only ina player city (like hospital and cantina),that allows the merchant to rent vendor space to a number of other players, and preferably put up consignment vendors for ANY player (i.e., no business skills needed). Iwould personally prefergarden-style malls with small shops lining a court, to retreads of fully-enclosed structures.

I find player cities increadibly ugly, nothing like a disorganized sprawn of houses. trainers, and these cheap "park" things all over the place in random arrangements, built on grass no less with gullys all over the placeto get you to realize how much people care.
Im a big fan of the "tidy" cities where people actualy try and maintain an organized cohesion of buildings and players, with actual streets and districts. But these cities tend to be "Brazillias" that tend to be short lived, and tend not to have an active citizenry.
I'd rather like to see an actual effort to make NPC cities the thing, because they are beautiful in my opinion, albeit alittle small for Star wars scale. I would love to see appartments, and housing much closer to the city boarder. As well as many more "nodes" that would grant players services or abilities that can only be accessed from major cities.
As far as player cities go, i would like to see the following.
New types of houses, many more variants and floorplans and styles to chose from. Also have only the special planatary type of house buildable on the 3 core planets, tatooine, naboo/rori and corellia/talus, and have generic houses restriced to corellia/talus, or removed entirely or made less grotesquely ugly, the whole 1960s madhouse or hospital feel aint so comfortable. Id like to see that whole style removed and replaced by somthing cooler, with actual style.
Can we do somthing about grandfathered houses, people who have long since quit, left half a million credits maintenance and never plan to return, only make restructuring the city impossible because they are unreachable.
Also on a contradictory side note, citizenship should be retained by people who have retired as long as thier account is active, something just needs to be done about thier houses becoming immoveable features in the landscape.
Alot more care needs to be done about city organization, 90% of player cities i visit have no cohiesive shape or structure, and are basicaly random sprawls doted by civic trash. A good mayor is one thing, but even the best cant do anything about a house nobody knows who owns, can draw enough people to remote arias, and can garantee that they will stay in shape after they retire.
Player cities dont look city like, it takes more than a bunch of buildings to make a city, streets anyone? Pavement? Lawnmower even? There should be a tool for the mayor to temporarily alter the landscape so long as the city stands, get rid of those gullys and poor terrain, and lay new textures to resemble roads or pavement. Other structures like walls, bridges, fences etc, cool stuff like that.
Also a wider variaty of civic structures, these park thinks are kinda cool although i think most of them are corny, and look especialy pathetic when coupled with these hodge podge cities we're all accoustomed to. More parks, lamps, statues, urban art, etc. Also more civic buildings, shops, malls, schools, etc. Also warehouses, since most people just use thier houses as lockers anyway, why not go the extra mile and make them a building to do that without the frills.
Also like an open bazaar aria unlike bazaar terminals. Any player even those without merchant skills, rent a 50 item capacity 24 hour vendor that you can place outdoors in a specific aria would be really cool. It would have no cash limit, and items that dont sell would go to a pick up terminal when the vendor expires. Of course they would cost 10k a day, cannot be registered, or tied to the bazaar.
I think appearance is a big deal when it comes to cities, it should be a place where one wants to live. And visual appearance plays a big role in this. But since player cities are to ephemeral, id rather see focus moved to NPC cities and have those urbanities feel at home.

Sweet Post!
Anchorhead was my home untill my ex-guild leader asked me to move to "the city", 5 cities later, it's home but on the edge of a town fallen/falling apart from in-active members.....
