I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it, but it is desperately needed. The difference between the two types of cities is the "streets". A major city is all "flat". It has road textures between the buildings and the perimiter before fading into the landscape. Player cities on the other hand are all mishapped. Forced to the landscape upon which it sits. These cites lack credibility due to this fact. They feel like a hodge-podge of houses rather than a city. If player cities were flattened and given street textures it would go a long way to help player cities gain popularity and legitimacy.

Between streets (the finished look in general) and starports, player cities get the shaft.

100% agree!

Static cities are so beautiful! And I know every politician has in their imagination how their own city would look if they too could have better tools to build with. I would bet millions of credits that players would desperatly seek to reside and play in a player city, what ever its size, if it appeared a more pleasent place to spend time in. What we have now is like.... pale examples of the desired communities we wish to spend time in.

I would recommend having politicians the ability to 'team up' with a game developer, and between the two of them craft a better more pleasent environment. Of corse, certin restrictions apply based on city size and population. Failing this, as I have proposed elesewhere:

***** encourage non player purge!!!!

1) allow all communities above outpost rank to have a shuttle port (if they can afford it), thus newer communities will be encouraged to move farther from a static city. If desperatly fringe static cities like Anchorhead may have one.. why not smaller cities?

Also, grant cities and metropolises, who mave maintined their rank 3 three consecutive weeks, the ability to place a "star ship terminal" in a local public guild hall (or other crafted building) to use as a star port terminal.

2) have buildings cost one less lot space if in a player city, and/or decreasing the maintience of a building in a city substantially.

3) have buidings placed in cities to have out-door lighting, or porch lighting. Like we now can toggle between what kind of merchant's sign to place on our buildings, allow a mayor to toggle what kind of 'porch light' appears and illuminates the players building once placed in that community.

4) allow a certin degree of player city faction points, the "my city is better then your city" would be a great motivator and encourage city residency. Humans are very territorial and turf wars would be great motivational tools we can use. Also, allow- if toggled on by that player- the ability to observe a player's residency. Have npc militia patrol the city (the mayor could give patrol points), the number of npc militia related to city size. The NPC militia men could target players with negitive city faction points.Banned players targeted immediatly.Rename current "militia" to city "administator".

5) allow for the mayor to place more terminals and trainers, as oft in a static city you see an amazing array of terminals everywhere... even where people do not go. This contributes to a polished look of a city.

6) allow greater diversity of buildings. This wouldnt actually BE that difficult, as there are many static buildings already in-game that could be player built. I speak of the one-level guild halls, that have the facy statues at the doors (those are VERY special!!!).

****Also, another easy way to allow building diversity is to eliminate the concept of "generic" house and replace it with the ability to place all buildings on all planets, just have the exterior facade default to the planet it is built on. And let the interriors be player controlled, at least give th eplayer the ability to toggle their interiors to look like "Corellian contemporary, Naboo classical, Tatooine adobe". Of corse, houses on Dantooine should be defaulted to what ever the mayor toggles on his newly updated city hall terminal.

Another person's idea I VERY much like is to alter the exterior facade of the city hall and cloning stations to something more grand each city level. A villagecity hall would appear as they do now.. township would appear larger, city yet grander, and metropolis even more imperssive.

Allow for better diversity medical centers, some that have greater 'archectual' presence. I actully do liek cantinas.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH and as far as the roads go... here is a SIMPLE way to allow this. Every building has a foot print, which flatens the vergitation around it. This already alters the 'texture' of the landscape. Why not simply extend this texturizing a bit and replace it with a city road? Of corse.. this would mean players would HAVE to build closer together.... but you know.. we encourage sprawl too much already!!! this would encourage more closely built buildings anyway.

Here here!

Flatten out player cities or let us build our city roads or *something*. No reason player cities should not look like something at least approaching the npc static cities.

One of my biggest gripes has always been critter nests spawning within city limits. The mobs which can spawn inside the city limites of a player city should be severely restricted. Such as no critters, but npc humanoids, for example, would be ok (swoops, kooks, loons, corsec, etc.). A city is a civilized zone and should be relatively safe, especially for those non-combat types. Also now, especially, because the CU has hit and it is so much easer to get dead.

yea i think mayors should be able to place streets, crossings and everything that would make player cities look like a civilised area and not some pirate den
