Thread: Factories, machinery, and I'm a n00b OH MY!

I am a n00b. I can admit it. My sole purpose in this world is to come here and trouble you people who have played the game a long time with my questions that do not even make you take a moment to think of the answers. I am sorry thatour roles are not reversed in this world.

Anyways, I'm newly a Master Tailor on Starsider.

I need to know exactly what I need to do in order to set up a factory. Apparently I need a wearables factory to print "runs"(?) of items to make other items. Heh, a technicality and overly complicated mixture that had I known was completely necessary probably would have curbed my interest in crafting, (ie., I hate processes that obviously have extra steps just to be a pain in the butt) and basically I haven't a clue.

Is this another completely hopeless venture in which I am going to have to either travel 4,000m away from everything into the middle of an aggro zone to build or continue to beg for zoning rights in someone's already deserted ( and unused ) city to put a single piece of machinery to build these necessary crafting items? Do they require power? If so what kind? Would I maybe be better off just posting on the trade forum and seeing if someone has a factory and whatever else may be needed for sale since they don't use them anymore?

Sorry for all the questions, this whole player city and zoning rights thing just boggles me. It seems like something that in theory would've worked great but in reality has been a failure and pain in the butt for those who actually are interested in it?

Thanks much.

I think this should help:FAQ for Tailors.Scroll down to section 2 on factories.

You can place a factory anywhere you like, andthey take power (should be any kind).

And what do you mean by the player city and zoning rights thing is a failure? I always thought it worked just fine.

And as far as the making of "runs," as you call them, being a pain in the butt... This step is actually a real time saver. I am sure the link already posted covers this, but a factory run makes the items in question for you and pops them into crates of 5, 10, 25, or 50 items. On item in your inventory holding 50 identical items. Not a bad thing in my book.

The process also saves you time in grinding. Take an architect, for example. (Although all crafting professions have some sort of similar grind.) To make a medium house you need six wall units. A wall unit takes ten structural modules. So my options would be to either A) craft sixty items, then craft six more or B) make a factory run of 500 structural modules, then put thos into my factory's ingredient hopper and pound out 50 wall units in five simple to use factory crates. Option B allows me to make 8 Medium houses in relatively little game time. The factory runs DO take a little time, but hey... Just set them up when you are logging off and they will likely be done when you come back.
