How's this for an idea...
Many people "create" items in the game which range anywhere from fireplaces, fishtanks, pool tables, air hockey tables, chandeliers, display cases, shelving units, kitchenets the list goes on and on. But alot of these items are created useing many, many other items. Some can range from 10-120 items or more to create which really hurts the structure item cap in your house or PA hall.
The idea is simple, well to me anyways. Once the item is created and finished you would be able to select all items the are "connected" and in a radial menu select "bind items". This would be a one way option to turn, say, 50 items into one. You can now pickup the item as one piece and only counts as one item in your inventory or structure. Should also have a feature to name the item upon binding.
Other benefits...
Crafting vendors would be able to have more displays. If you drop a full set of armor or clothing wardrobe and bind them the full suit of armor now counts as one item which the downfall to that is the item can never be un-binded or worn ever again. Unless the "Bind items" command comes with an "unbind items" command which would not be a good idea due to exploiters.
Exploiters would drop any and all items they own in a single pile and then "bind". Drop it in their pack as one item and be on their way.
Another benefit for Architects would be to have pre-made items such as pool tables or fireplaces they can now sell as a single item already build on their vendors. The time and resources to make a nice pool table made from about 80 items would carry a nice price as well. Especially for originality.
I believe this would bring more life back to the game and the crafting/non-combat player proffesions.
Thanks and please submit any other ideas to add.

It's a cool idea, but how would the game know which items are to be bound together. I mean, sure your 50 items might look like a pod racer or something, but to the server computer they are just more numbers in a really long string or two. Now what they COULD do is give us a deed of some sort. Something that creates a little shed for maybe 48 hours or so. Everything that is in that shed is bound together into one item forever when you destroy the deed. If it isn't destroyed by the player after the 48 hours, the entire thing poofs. Sounds like a good idea, but I would imagine it would be a big headache for SOE.

Not a bad idea, kind of like a work shop but What if the items aren't touching? You could have 50 or so items in that "shed" and when you bind them they get thrown together any way it can find. The idea was to click on one item in the lot and bring up the radial menu and select bindor target an item and type /bind. That would recognize any and all items that are touching and bring up a new window prompting for a name and telling you how many items you are about to bind along with a verification "Ok" box to click when done.

the one thing i have always wanted is to be able to group items together so they can be moved around as a single item your idea just takes mine one step further. it would be great to be able to group items together to make one custom item like a fire place and then have a choice to make that in to a single item.
i think the best solution would be to be able to make a group of items first which you could add, take away items to untill you have them the way you want, then be able to select to"bind" them from a grouped items menu to make them into a whole new item which could be named like a crafted object, but not unbound again.
as to how it could work that should be easy enough to do. when you place an object in you house it knows both its own dimensions and where it is located in your house, i am not a games programer but i would assume the item has a set of co-ordanites that is used to draw the object and fix its location in a structure. you might have noticed that you cant move items through doors into other rooms (this is most likely because the expressions used to draw the items in the house are split into lists for each room to help speed the time they take to draw) so when you create a group the structure you were in could make a sublist for the room you were which would contain the items you are grouping.
once you are ready to finish and you permently bind all the items into a new one and name it the sublist can be made into a single item listing and put back into the main room list for the structure (this may all sound way complex but it is proberly quite close to how items like bookcase work where it is an item in a room which has items conatined within which are in the room but not drawn).
these new items could be marked so that they may not be binded again (this would stop people from being able to have lots of these new items in a room and then binding the whole decor of a room into a new single item). you could also have the new items count as more then one inventory slot, (maybe even a scale 1-20 items used = 1 slot, 20-50 = 2 slots ...) there could also be an upper limit on the amount of items that can be bound into a new one.
all this should be possable and not too hard to do but i doubt we will get it, i mean we cant even get to change the wallpaper in houses and that would be 10 times more easy to do then this. so i guess we will just have to dream on for a while.

Indeed not a bad idea at all.
This would cause a lot of new decorations from creativity. It's very original and would add more to the game.
As much as I like this idea though, I don't see it coming. The scripting and stuff might be too much to add to the game, esp. when there are so many fixes for current things needed. :-/

Guess you could set up a system where players can set flags for certain items in a fixed area. Not sure the Devs would go allowing players to have elevated admin privileges though.
Btw, the Devs have not been very supportive of player attempts to have more storage space, so I would say that would nix this idea.
