Ok, so I know how much xp is needed for each level. Now the question is how do you get the experience, and how much do you get?

100 XP per vote, to my knowledge. I have yet to find consistent skill tree information, so i can't give you the numbers for each tier.

Take a look at this thread. They put the skill tree up for politicians.

Each Vote awards 100 xp to the person being voted for. At the end of the voting cycle (7 days from when it began, which is when the City Hall is placed), the XP is awarded to the Mayor. I don't know what happens to Votes for the losing Mayor, though I imagine no XP is awarded. That's also when the City maintenance is deducted and the potential rank increase due to population size is determined.

If losing politicians never get experience for whatever votes they earned, then the politician profession will soon become stagnant as a handful of experienced politicians get all the experience. Who will vote for a noob polly with no abilities? A noob politician would never be able to catch up.

Politicians who lose the race for mayor still get experience for the votes they did get.

I realize that Politicians get 750 exp automatically each week for being mayor, and also that they get experience from people voting for them, but after my first week, I had 12 votes logged for me, yet at the end of one week, the voting seems to still be going, as it still shows (now 13 votes) logged and I have only the 750xp from the weekly part, and I do not have any other experience gained, do I have to have someone running against me for the voting to work? Or do I have to wait for 2 weeks after my city has been in existence?

As you said, you get 750xp per week for being the incumbent. However, the voting cycle spans three weeks. Citizens can vote for you during that entire time, but you won't get the xp for those votes until the election cycle is over. Then it starts all over again.

Just so you know, there is also a Politician message board that may provide quicker responses to these types of questions.

<-- also a Wookiee mayor
