PlayerStructures
- All maintenance fees will automatically attempt to deduct from Bank accounts after the maintenance pool has been depleted. Once a structure reaches 0 hitpoints, it will flag itself as condemned instead of deleting itself. Condemned houses are not enterable, and all other structures are not usable. To uncondemn a house, simply enter it with enough money in the bank to pay the repair cost. To uncondemn all other structures, use them with enough money in the bank to pay the costs.

Now this is a nifty little feature. Good and bad, though.
It's good for players who genuinely forget to pay maintenance or get hit by the Maintenance Bug (where maint. paid doesn't register in the logs). Rather than logging in to find an e-mail that says your structure was at 3% two days ago isn't real helpful.
It's bad for structures owned by people who have left the game. Basically, this means those structures have the potential to stick around a lot longer than normal. So Player Cities filled with abandoned houses from players who have left the game have to wait even longer to get rid of them. Real estate close to major starports becomes even scarcer because there's fewer decays on abandoned structures.
My opinion is that a better solution is to fix the structure decay e-mails (which are *supposed* to notify you when a structure first starts to decay, at half, and a few other times in between) and/or purge cancelled accounts at the 6 month time frame as originally planned.

Yeah, was thinking the same myself - they really need to purge some of these old accounts - I know of some houses that have been around for at least a year or so. Of course, some of them have a year's worth (or more) of maint in them.....
This is good for people who have to go out of town unexpectedly, though, or who have a broke computer.

JustG said in the Patch Notes thread that they will be doing the purge to clean stuff up. This change to structure maintenance is a first step, and the purge will come after.
So it looks like the good may outweigh the bad after all.

They should make it that if a house becomes condemned, after a certain amount of time the house sign changes to "Condemned" and any player who attempts to walk in the door who has enough lots and repair money will be given an option to take over the house.

Although I am always one to pay my maintainance, this is a welcome feature. Because the timer is constantly ticking on every one of our posessions in game (save things in the bank), everything tends to feel very temporary even when paid up months (or more) in advance. I don't like having to worry that my house will disapear if I don't visit it every day to make sure the maintainance bug hasn't hit me.
I also can't wait for the purge - I believe a LOT of space is going to open up that can be put to good use.

I cant see why when a player cancels their account the system should be able to take all there buildings and contents and move them into a holding area.
Then when they re-activate they are given the deed to the houses and a loot box containing what was in the houses at the time of cancelling.

I hope they at least give 'condemned' houses a new model, that looks like abandoned ruins ofan intact house.

this is fine and well for the people that have the funds to deal with the bank hits but not everyone in the game is a multimillionaire...heck of all my 30 something charactors only 2 have anywhere near the funds to handle this type of money hit.....maybe an option on the maintenace scheduler for this would be better so those that dont have the funds consistantly can opt out
