instead of a bunch of homes in a row, i feel it would be more apropriate for a planet like Corelia to have player city Skyscrapers

here's how they could work:

-you enter the lobby and go to the desk

-a nice & politenpc is waiting behind it with radial menu options

-you can choose a room, but you are required to pay a weekly or monthly fee of credits depending on the room

-there are options for North or South, East and West sides, also the level of the floor

-some may be suites, presidential etc.

-the rooms are decoratable

-the more expensive and roomier rooms have balconies which may bewalked upon

-in the lobby there are North, South, East, and West elevators to take you to your room

-a group leader may take his group members to his room

-the monthly or weekly rooming fees are transfered to city hall just like shuttleport ticket fees

i hope you like my idea+details and welcome comments

I was thinking of going to the building's terminal, then looking up under appartment-floor 2, appartment 3, paying [areasonablepricehere] for a weeks rental, then payingrent justasyou do maintenance on a regular house.(therent is set by the building-owner)

This could also be used for the skyscrapers inside the npc-cities.

Imagine owning a penthouse appartment on one of Coronet's biggest buildings... 3 times as expensive as a large house, but friggin' huge and with an awesome view to boot (windows like those in the large tat house) and balconies...

Of course, if the rental is a full week late, your items will be lost as with any other house.

In case of a skyscraper being removed by it's owner, any and all who have rented appartments will have their itemsand moneydumped on the sidewalk for a month in a dna-locked chest (those blue ones)

A good idea, imho.

wouldn't the lag be really bad with loads of skyscrapers in a player city?

u shouldnt have to group to get into a apartment

also i think a weekly stormtrooper search in major imperial citys are in order ^_^

general it would not work in a player city yesh but implementing skyscapper apartments *apartments in general* use to be on the jump to lightspeed agenda we do not need to push them to do this it is something we want but they well get to it wether we ask for it or not =] unless there is problems oh and for the lag in the citys usually when you enter a building the framerate drops erincreasea bunch? so dont worry about that last i belive that the apartments or skyskrappers should have an elevator that lets you choose what floor you want insted of going to the radial click up radial up just make it a elevator switch that turns into a key pad and you type your floor and press enter key and it takes you there well thats my 3 pennys

You could have hotels like that, too. Go in the lobby, radial menu, "rent a room", "ring a guest", etc. Pay your daily or weekly fee, then radial-menu at the elevator to go to your room. No grouping required - the person that rented gets to the room first and adds others to the access list. Anyone on the access list can extend the rental at any time by adding more maintenance credits either from the room or at the front desk. Of course, the front desk would have to count as a vendor.

This has been discussed plenty of times with various ideas. Have yet to hear from any of the devs.

LOL! This is how I thought the game would work when I was a noob at release. All that time running around trying the doors in the cities.

oh well, this is a wonderful idea.

Well, the only real problem with the NPC cities would be that they couldn't have windows b/c they'd have to be instanced or something like that to avoid the mad rush of players to get "the best" rooms in the skyscrapers. That said, it would be a great addition to those cities who have reached "megatropolis" status, allowing them to place say, up to eight or ten skyscrapers within a certain range of the city hall- i mean, how often do ya see skyscrapers on the edge of a city? It is normally large structures in the center, and then sprawls out to the suburbs and whatnot. So here are my ideas for certain 'scrapers....

  1. Basic. It has four floors, four rooms per floor. Really every room is on the corner, and an elevator is placed at one end of the 'scraper where the lobby is. The lobby is simply a large room jutting out of the building, with a desk, a back room, and two sets of sliding doors. Note: all 'scrapers have separate item limits per room and an additinoal limit for outside the rooms themselves.

  2. Delux. Five floors, six rooms per floor, one elevator at either end. The floors actually only start on the second floor, for the ground, or first floor, has a large banquet area to hold dances, parties, and weddings in. Also has the lobby of a basic, only slightly larger. Each room also gets a balcony, pre-designed to hold three randomly designed items, such as a small plant or a chair.

  3. Penthouse Version. Same as the Delux, only a special penthouse has been added, and would have windows for much of the ceiling-just think yacht, lol. It would simply be one large room, with a smaller room for a bed or something.

  4. Flats.Five floors, enter into a small room (about the same size of a Tat small house's first room) with a small desk and elevator. Each floor would be one big room, with two smaller rooms adjoining them. The rent for these would be just like a large house. Also, windows would be all over the place, lol- DER

  5. Tower Version. Six floors, rooms set up in three sections, much like a letter "T". Four rooms per section, and a penthouse added at the top, along with a typical banquet room, but resized to accomidate the larger size, and also has another structure jutting out of it for a pool or something. Also, the penthouse would gain a special walk-around balcony, allowing them to fully walk around the circumference/perimeter of the 'scraper.

Each rooms would be like it's house version. A penthouse, tho, would be twice that of a large house. Plus, item limits for the apartments would stay the same as their counterparts. Each person who wanted to have a room would first set a "bid" on a computer, which records their name and sends an email to the owner. Then, all the owner would have to do is set the price for it per week PLUS the maint, so the owner can make money off their venture. While at first people would pay extraordinant amounts for these rooms, eventually it would lower as people would search for better prices. Also, while the maint cost for each room is by the hour/minute, the rent cost would be weekly/monthly, whichever the buyer and seller decide upon.

Now while there is a limit for how many TOTAL 'scrapers you can have, you may only place TWO tower versions to save space and lag problems, lol. Maybe instead of a set limit of total buildings we could have say six basics, five delux, four penthouses and flats, and two towers. That'd be enough to have a minitature city around your city hall, lol, and allow for cities to set up their designs so there are the "high-rollers" by the hall, followed by the larger houses, then the vendor houses, followed by the rest of the types, like a true city. Just a thought, discuss amongst yourselves.....

I totally agree. They would be great in player cities or even the original cities. People were always asking for shops/housing inside of the static cities. Would be cool to see gigantic shopping malls, and to reduce the lag, if can be set up like MP star ships, where the room is onlyactive when someone is in it and in a different zone kinda thing so it doesnt lag the crap outta cities (Coronet doenst need any more.)
