Thread: Idea for alterations to structure transfers

Greetings, all.

With some of the other changes in the offing, an idea for possible alterations to the current structure transfer process has come to mind.

First, if I may indulge myselffor a moment,a bit of background that led to this idea. My wife's has been speaking to the owner of our city's cantina about taking over ownership. The problem - we're in a US time zone (Central, to be specific), and the current owner is in Europe (GMT). As a result, while they agreed to the transfer weeks ago, it still hasn't happened because their time zones and schedules haven't been allowing for them to coordinate a good time for both to be on. (Note: Their discussions have been on our city's message boards, allowing for them to take place despite the time differences.) All this got me thinking, "There must be an easier way."

Which led to my ideas.

Option 1): WIth the expansion of the group invite "radius" expanding galaxy-wide, make a similar expansion to /transferstructure, allowing the command to be processed whether the new owner is online or not, nearby or not. At this point, one of two things could happen, simple or slightly more complex. Simple: A waypoint is entered in the new owner's datapad, and they receive an instant message (upon next login, if applicable)reading (for example), "Luke Skywalker has transferred ownership of a Small Tatooine House to you. A waypoint has been placed in your datapad." Slightly more complex: At time of transfer (or new owner's next login, whichever is applicable), the new owner receives an option window (similar to group invite window), reading, "Luke Skywalker wishes to transfer ownership of a Small Tatooine House to you. Do you accept? Yes/No." Upon acceptance, a waypoint is entered in the new owner's datapad.

This option essentially builds upon the existing structure transfer system.

Option 2): This is a more extensive change to the transfer system, but, similar to the "invite box" method mentioned above, requires the consent of both parties for the transfer to take place. From the structure management terminal, the current owner selects a "Transfer Ownership" option. This option opens a GUI window that allows the current owner to enter the name of the new owner and enter a "selling cost" of 0 - 9999999. Upon entering this information and selecting "OK," the potential new owner is added to the structure's entry list (if private and they're not already there) and receives an automated e-mail with waypoint and message to the effect, "Luke Skywalker wishes to transfer ownership of a Small Tatooine House to you for the price of 0 credits." The potential new owner may then, at his or her leisure, travel to the structure, access the structure management terminal and select the "Transfer Ownership" option. This opens a GUI window showing the price of transfer and asking to accept or decline. Upon acceptance, the sale amount (if any) is automatically bank transferred as with a vendor sale.

Either one of these changes would allow for easier facilitation of structure transfers between players whose schedules may otherwise prevent them from making such transactions quickly.

So...what's everyone think?

So...I take it no one thinks much of the idea, then.

Oh, most definitely agreed that it wouldn't be a terribly high priority. In fact, it probably wouldn't be something that anyone even considered, were they not having trouble coordinating a transfer under the current system.

Just something for folks to keep in mind. And, of course, indulge in idea crashin' and bashin' to work any kinks out.

And, it never hurts to ask. The worst that can happen is they say, "No." (Or, at least, "Not right now." :smileyvery-happy

I understand the reasoning behind wanting an improved system. As the city planner for my player city, having an option to transfer without actually meeting up would be great.

You've got some great suggestions. Combining the bank tip system (where you can bank tip to a player that is not online, but the money doesn't transfer until the target player logs in) and an acceptance option would be a great addition to the current system. Basically the owner of a structure does a /transferstructure <name of player>. The player being transferred to receives an automatic e-mail stating that <owner> wishes to transfer the structure located at x,x,x. The target player would have to go to that structure in order to accept the transfer. Put a 24 hour timer on it. If the transfer fails, both parties receive an e-mail about it.

I don't think creating a system like this would be too difficult, but I don't know if it's simple enough--or needed enough--to add it to the current development schedule. Basically I think it's one of those things that would be really, really neat, but it isn't something in high enough demand to warrant development time.
