Has anyone else noticed how much space is unused in NPC cities. Wouldn't it be cool if players could rent space in these buildings for homes, storage, and even to place vendors. Obviously there would need to be some significant fees associated with this since this would really be prime real estate. If they could get around the lag issues I think it would be great. It would also be nice is these large building could be added to player cities and be run by the city or by other players who want to give up a good portion of their lots to run one. Let the city have so many based on size. This would also be a way for cities to be able to get some more revenue. I think this would be a great element to the NPC and player cities to be able to have these. As far as lots are concerned, the devs may want to make them take a certain amount of lots, or maybe even zero lots, but put a limit on the number of spaces you can rent. Players would need to be responsible to pay the rent in the NPC cities, if they don't the get an eviction notice and after a period of time they are booted out and someone else can rent the space. In the NPC cities I’m sure there would need to be a waiting list of some kind for the space. In the player/city controlled spaces the mayor or owner could decide if they evicted or not, there would need to be a system in place to prevent griefing that’s fair to both the owner and player. I just think that this could bring people to the NPC cities more and utilize the huge building there and also be a cool way to add some large buildings to Player Cities, while at the same time giving a boost to the local economy.

I'm sure these types of things have been brought up before, but feel free to add you ideas to this and maybe it might get looked at.

I'd liketo see instanced housing in the large cities similar to what you see in EQ2. You walk up to an aprtment building and click on the door and it takes you to an instance of your apartment. You could set up vendors in your apartmentor there could even be business space available for vendors to be set up in a different building.

I'd love to sell my wares from a vendor in my Theed (or other space station equipped city)Apartment to forgo players the hassle of having to transit back and forth to my player city to buy things.

We could also have instanced factories in industrial areas to cut down on the eyesores that the landscapes around player cities have become. Basically, all instanced housing/utility still costs lots, but you go to a desginated area in an npc city to access it rather than having to place at a player city or remote location. You would still have to buy a deed (which would grant you access to your instance, be it a house or a factory hopper) and pay maintanance to be able to use the structure just as you do currently.

Edit/Addendum: I am firmly against players having any involvement in controlling these structures or any apect of NPC city affairs. The possibilities for greifing would be tremendous. If I purchase an apartment in Kor Vella, I don't want l337 d00dz from theguild rebzsuxxo0rz to be able to vote to evict me or bar me from living in said npc city.

View renting out one of these npc city appartments like living in my city of chicago for example. The farther out you go ie out of city limits rent is cheap. But living in one of these spaces should break your bank. Like 1 mil a month. But you could also scale it appropiately like the differencebetween living in Chicago and my old sorry city of Syracuse NY.It's pretty cheap there. So let's say living in Coronet,Bestine or Theed would be like NY, LA and Chicago. Pretty pricey. But the rest of the cities would be cheaper. Like living in Wayfar or Mos Taike would be like living in Flint, MI. Dirt cheap. I wouldn't put limits on how long you live there but make it interactive like having to talk to that city's mayor on a regular basis to show you actually play on that server as your main. That way you'renot taking up space where someone else that plays there would benifit being there more. But it would have to be really expensive because it's prime realestate. From an ingame economic standpoint it would be great because you could have some of the best crafters close by and the rent in and of itself would be a huge credit sink. All I know is that I've been living in one of the back alley buildings in Eisley for a year now and using the bank there to hold my crap. So as far as I'm concerned I'm a squatter I guess and I already live in the city.

The industrial zone idea could be added to player cities as well. Give a schematic for a 'municipal manufacturing center' or somesuch to architects. Make themodel something with walls, maybe a few power generators, and one of each of the factory type. Rather than placing 5,10,+ factories, a player would take a deed to the appropriate factory type in the municiple zone, use it, and have an insance of that factory type be open to them. Factories would still require lots/maint, but at least they would no longer be eyesores. If the player used 4 deeds at the factory, they would have access to four factory hopper instances. This would also eliminate the hassle of having aggro mobs attack you while you are tending to factories outside of city limits. I always thought that was a tad silly to say the least.

This would still leave harvestors to be placed manually in the wild, but I think that should remain the way it is.
